The real thing
What a great learning experience! This is actually a text book for college level 100 intro to a science.Very well laid out. Step by step learning (and great reading) on Astronomy, the solar system, Galaxies, and the Universe. Math is all quite simple but allows for in depth understanding of the principles. If you are curious about, and want to about Astronomy, this is the best book I have read yet.CONS: The only con I can see is that the book only covers advances through 2015 - 2016. Science and exploration is advancing quickly. Wish it was updated every two years or so.

Excellent hard cover book with beautiful illustrations
The book is a very heavy and durable hardcover. The illustrationa are beautiful. While there is technical information, the book is not a difficult read and is full of useful information. Even though this is a textbook for an Astronomy 103 class, I'm going to be keeping this book around for reference and for homeschooling my children.

Great to have school books on amazon for free
what more can I say? My college uses this book, and it's great to have a copy with me on my kindle so I can catch up on my reading homework.

Good intro textbook
An Astronomy 101 textbook for non-science majors. Comprehensive coverage, almost 1200 pages, numerous color images, brief biographical sketches of important contributors to astronomy, and virtually no mathematics. About 5 years old, so quite current. The lack of mathematics gets this book only 4 stars, since the more technically minded students should have more of this information available.

Heavy Books
It was two books each book was about an inch and a half thick so they were heavy. Trying to hold one book up and read it while you're laying comfortably on the couch or bed was not possible. Must be at the table to read this book. The workbook I had didn't necessarily correspond with each chapter. I only made it up to chapter 5 and instead of taking online I'm going to the classroom.

Book looks used
I purchased this book and it say new when I brought it but the pages are falling out and the book looks far from new! I would send it back but class has already started and I need the book so I’ll have to make due! But for 60 this book is in terrible condition!

Excellent and Reference Book
I have read about 60% online and I decided I want to buy the book, and keep as a reference book. It's excellent, involved and detail book, and it's good for me because I wanted learn about astronomy and astrophysics but now i am, at 56 years old. It's heavy though, almost 6 lbs, but that makes it good as a reference book.I like reading at read.amazon.com and the Kindle on my iPad because I make it large, but the con for doing this it makes hard to go back and forth with figures and tables. Also I like to stand when I working and reading. What a person going to do? :-)

An absolutely amazing book
I have been absolutely amazed by this book. I have always had an interest in astronomy but, other than casual reading, have never taken the trouble to explore the subject more deeply. I have studied this book from beginning to end and followed all the links, the extent of the material is amazing. I would seriously recommend this book to anyone from 12 to 100 . You do not need advanced physics or maths to reach a decent level of understanding in the subject. I have no doubt this is one book I will re-read again and again.

Give a great overview of the earth, the solar system and beyond.
A really great read giving you enough information and detail to keep you interested and informed. Consider if a great teaching tool for anyone interested in the solar system and stars or anyone embarking on a career in astronomy. Plenty of questions to keep the grey matter thinking and references galore if you want to extend your knowledge on any particular topic. A sound platform on the basics of astronomy and how worlds evolve and a very good read for anyone not technically minded but likes to know how the heavens work.

Awesome - everything you wanted to know about the Galaxy (and beyond)
I bought this (actually it was free) to get information on a specific question, but I found the book so readable and engaging that I am now reading it from front to cover - although the back cover for me is still a long way off as it is a very long book. Very suitable for beginners, it is pitched at a high enough level to keep all readers happy. It is very good value at the full hardcopy price, but if you can get it for free or a few quid on Kindle then it is an absolute steal. Definitely recommended if you have any interest whatsoever in astronomy.

An easy and very informative read.
The book which was incredibly for free, is remarkable. Not only is it a very informative and easy read, it also, like any good lesson in the the classroom, states the objectives of the subsequent chapter. Then it summarizes the chapter with a series of question and answers, or questions for a group or individuals consideration. Another great feature is a series of hypertext links to the internet where further information and simulations can be found. The book also contains a very extensive further reading list. Brilliant!
