I loved, loved, loved My Defender. Alder's books are like crack for us paranormal romance junkies! I can see it now: Room in a church basement, a circle of chairs, surrounded by a group of grim faces, and I stand and say, "Hello, my name is Judy and I'm an Alanea Alder paranormal romance addict!" lol... All joking aside, Alder's books really are addictive. They're like potato chips; you can't stop with just one! This is the eighth book of the series and each story gets better and better! I can hardly wait to dive into the ninth! lol... I love unique paranormal romance, addicted to danger, action, adventure & suspense, completely smitten with sexy, alpha heroes, adore sassy, courageous heroines, and there's nothing I enjoy more than a few mind-bending plot twists along with a generous infusion of laugh-out-loud humor, but when I can get it all in one exceptionally well-crafted and beautifully written book, I'm in absolute heaven! And that's exactly what Alanea Alder delivered - AGAIN - in My Defender, the eighth full-length paranormal romance in her riveting and highly imaginative Bewitched & Bewildered Series. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Was it perfect? No, but it was perfect for me. There were a few little boo-boos missed in the editing process, but nothing that distracted me from the story. Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language, some violence, and steamy, dreamy sex. Will I read this author again? Absolutely which is probably the best recommendation I can give! As a matter of fact, after completing the first book of this series, I raced back to Amazon and purchased the remaining nine books and signed up for her newsletter, which speaks volumes as to how much I enjoyed this author's work! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my chair, white-knuckling my ereader, my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the pages flew as quickly as the time!The series takes a bit of a turn in Book 6 when Unit Commander Aiden McKenzie and his firecracker mate Meryn leave Lycaonia to visit vampire pillar city Noctem Falls, Naturally, they are accompanied by Meryn's squire Sei Ryuu and, of course, Felix the sprite along with former Noctem Falls resident Elizabeth Monroe and her mate Gavriel Ambrosios. Then in Book 8, they are joined by Colton, Rhei, Kendrick, and Anne. Aiden, Meryn, Ryuu, Felix, Beth, Gavriel, Colton, Rheia, Kendrick, and Anne are all recurring characters readers have gotten to know in the previous books of the series and always add so much to each story. We're also introduced to an entire new cast of intriguing characters in Book 6 but the primary couple in this story is enigmatic unit warrior wolf-shifter Grant Douglas and kindhearted elephant-shifter Doctor Eleanor 'Ellie' Kimball, world-renowned pediatrician and medical researcher. I fell in love with the fierce, stoic, man-of-few-words, and always scowling Grant Douglas though he's also a bit of a mystery. But once again, wait until you find out who and what he his! Oh my! Shhh... No spoilers from me. And the sweet, shy, humble and extremely self critical Ellie is the epitome of keen intelligence, generosity, kindness, and heartwarming devotion to children and those she loves, like her lovely grandmother, retired nurse Marjarom Johanson, who accompanies Ellie to Noctem Falls, is an absolute delight. At first glance, Grant and Ellie appear to be total opposites but were so perfect for each other! Ellie was just the woman to see the gentle, generous, kind soul beneath the layers of Grant's stern nature and self-doubt! Both of their stories just broke my heart and one-year-old orphaned toddler Benji was soooo adorable! Sigh... So dreamy! And naturally, Meryn 'the menace', her minions Jaxson and Noah, along with her two newly adopted twin 'baby Keelans' provide loads of laughter and shenanigans galore! And once again, this story ripped my heart out of my chest! I snickered, snorted, sniffled, snuffled, chuckled, and outright ugly cried through the entire story! This one will really tug on your heartstrings! But just a little warning, folks, don't start this book unless you have plenty of time; you will not want to stop until you reach the last page. I should know; I've spent the last week binge-reading the entire series and falling asleep holding my Kindle every night! lol... Alanea Alder, you're killing me! If you enjoy perilous danger, intense drama, agonizing angst, pulse-pounding action, nail-biting suspense, side-splitting humor, heartwarming romance, and a few mind-blowing plot twists that you'll never see coming, then this book is screaming your name. Extraordinary world building, exceptional character introduction/development, along with skilled plot progression make this series a fabulous, can't-put-down read! I have the whole series of books and I have read them cover to cover multiple times. They make you laugh, cry, rethink things and sigh with joy. In this particular book I laugh so hard I almost wet myself every time I read the part where Kendrick sets the guys up to watch videos on birthing babies. Oh my goodness. Roll on the floor laughing. Meryn is the best - she is crazy, zany and brilliant. All the characters are well written and stand alone. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I recommend this read.

Another hit! Love this series. Always brings out a lot of emotions. Love that we keep up somewhat with the previous characters. Just what I expect in a good book and from Alanea Alder. Books you start and are up all night cause you can’t put them down. Would recommend them to anyone who just wants to take a good book and leave the world behind for awhile. One of my favorite series.

What I love most about these books is how funny they are. Meryn’s ability to de-escalate a situation is phenomenal. I’ve rarely laughed as much as I do reading these books! I’ve been missing the trips to the grocery from Lycaonia but Kendrick fixed me right up!

I absolutely loved this book. It's been worth the wait.Grant has gone from a side character to a main feast. His sweet and loving mate Doc Ellie, makes the perfect mate to our quiet scowling Grant.Due to a mysterious illness, Ellie and her Grams comes to Noctem Falls to help. Bonus, she didn't count on meeting her mate the same day.Grant has no idea why the kids from the Wolfpack is calling for him when they are in pain. But he goes to them. Never did he dream that fate would send him his mate. They also became parents of an adorable baby.... yip you need to read for that titbit.This book is filled with so much emotion. Worry, love, pain, joy, tears, smiles and many revelations we were not prepared for. I was reading this book with an urgency because I needed to know what will be happening. And then a second time to make sure I didn't miss anything.With Meryn around there is never a dull moment. I think with each book I learn more to love of this little woman with an amazingly huge heart. In this book, she knows how Grant feels and she can help him and others relate.Learning about Grant's circumstances made me angry and made me so proud of him, I just want to hug him. The quiet scowling wolf has a few surprises and it made me smile. The way he treats his mate... I wish someone could treat me the same way. They way he praises his mate.... humbles my heart.When things became so hard, he was there for her and he could help her with his quiet strength... love this man.I loved that Alanea brings in a few of our loved characters from our Alpha Estate.... well you got to read to find out who.But Ellie came with her own little drama.... may I say that I totally enjoyed the way she took care of her problem. Our team also learned more about the fact that the ferals are in the cities as well and in important positions.Alanea, I will never look at a turkey... with a silver spoon stuck in it and not laugh! And also the word MASHED.... different meaning to me.Awesome book, but now I want the next book desperately, please?

Wow, Ms Alanea Alder has done it again. She has delivered another amazing and powerful story.. Ellie and Grant couldn't be more perfect for one another.. This book will make you laugh and cry. Ellie is a pediatrician who comes to Noctem Falls to see to the wolf children who have taken ill with a mysterious illness. What she doesn't expect is to meet her mate. Grant is a wolf unit warrior in Noctem Falls. The last thing is expects is the new pediatrician to be his mate but now that he has met Ellie nothing will stop him from claiming and protecting her. This is the 8th book of the series and it is an absolute read.. Ms Alanea Alder just gets better with each new book she writes and this one in no exception.

Grant and Ellie makes such a cute couple. What a surprise about Grant. He's such a big soft, I like how the children were attached to him, like they knew he truly is. Ellie is a such a sweet and perfect for Grant
