Happy With This Well Made Set of Knives
Recently retired and on a budget, I wanted to cook more & eat out less. To up my game, I bought a few pieces of Zwilling pro S knives which I think are great. Then I found this set with all the pieces I was interested in at a fraction of the price. After reading the specs and reviews, I decided to try them out. Honestly, I am not a professional chef, but I find these knives very comparable with the Zwillling as far as looks, thickness of blades, sharpness, feel, and performance. I have only used these a few weeks, but find myself looking at the blade logo to figure out which brand I am using. They are a joy to use. They suit my needs very well, and am confident they will last a long time with care. I did not need a block, so I was glad that it came in a well made carry case to store pieces I need occasionally or when I go pro after all my chopping experience - Ha

Best starter set you can get!
Same quality and steel as wusthof or zwilling at a fraction of the price. Some will complain "MADE IN TAIWAN" means inferior quality which only shows they don't know what they're talking about. Taiwan is known in the knife community for making some of the most high quality knives there are.Ontario knife company out of new york has tgeor RAT 1 and RAT 2 knives made in Taiwan, Cold Steel (under lynn thompson) had all their knives made in taiwan. Blade quality is second to none, it's right there with wusthof and zwilling.I wanted to put together my own knife kit and these 3 renaissance knives by Mercer were on my list (santoku, utility, and paring). Buying this set was actually cheaper than buying them individually. So i bought it and have a spare roll bag to give away or pack when camping. My only complaint is that all three knives are advertised as having rounded spines. My 8 inch renaissamce chef knife did, but none of the three renaissamce knives in this set did. In fact I'm discovering that as a common thing, only the 8 inch chef knife has the rounded spine, at least that i found. My 8 inch chinese chef knife With a santoprene handle by mercer has a rounded spine as well. It doesn't bother me though nkt having a rounded spine because i know how to use sandpaper and properly sharpen a knife so during a sharpening session i just took some sandpaper to it and voila. If you have a young person in your life that loves cooking or wants to get into cooki g, or needs a good push into culimary skills i highly recommend a mercer genesis or renaissance set of knives, 12 inch steel and a 6 inch soft arkansas stone (use water with dish soap instead of oil for best results. Once you use oil on a stone you can't go back to water only india stones require oil for sharpening). Videos of sharpening with arkansas stones can be found on YouTube. I like red rooster the best, his channel gets to the nitty gritty.

Amazing quality for the price, don't be tempted to buy cheaper knives
I wanted some quality knives that I could keep separate from the knives my wife uses who tends to cut on the counter (not on a cutting board), put them in the dishwasher, or use them for the wrong items...ruining the knives. Being in foodservice I work with Certified Executive Chefs and asked them what kind of knives to purchase. We looked at all different kinds of knives on Amazon avoiding the ones that were super cheap with a name brand we didn't recognize. Mercer was a brand the chefs recognized and actually used so they suggested them. Got the knives in and they are really sharp, was cutting through raw steaks like butter. The roll they come with is really nice and keeps them all packaged together. I would highly recommend these knives for anyone looking for sharp knives, with durable and "grippy" handles, packaged in a nice and easy to transport roll. Sure you can spend hundreds of dollars on one knife but these cut exactly as good as some of the Shun and Wustof knives

Great knives and roll
For great set of knives that can tackle anything and nice roll to carry them this is the set for you. I had to buy the cleaver separately but still a great set and stays sharp for a long time.

This bag is my new Sous Chef - Love It!
SO... I am not sure where some of the other reviews are coming from. But this is my experience, and know that I am a dude who loves bags, and uses many and does research before I purchase things. This bag is a game changer for me, I work as an Executive Chef, which means I cook my ass off, but also have to be able to go to meetings, tastings, and work on menus, orders, social media, etc. I have to keep a lot of stuff on hand, and most of it can not live in my truck This bag allows for ALL of that.THE KNIFE CASE: Slides out, is decent quality, especially being it will mostly live inside the protection of the backpack. Also comes with a strap if you want to use just the knife case alone. I use some big knives (4), Small knives (4), Special Knives (2) and a bunch of small tools and there is still plenty of room for more in the case.THE BAG: Plenty of pockets for all your work and personal needs, I carry normally on hand my phone (Note 3 which is huge), Macbook with charger, recipe book, notebook, water bottle, phone charger, usb drives, 5 sharpies, 4 pens, calculator, order clipboard, pocket knife, and other office needs. and still there is plenty of room.OUTER POCKET/SLING: Attaches with clips, similar to Skateboard and Snowboard bags, its a pocket, but does not fully close, it attaches at the top with 2 clips. Holds for me, 2 Aprons, chef coat, jeans, shirt, boxers, socks. If needed, I have used the 2 water bottle slings (1 on each side) to slide my Clogs, or Street shoes, however, in the laptop section, if you slide shoes to the bottom, they will fit there as well.TOP HANDLE: It works as needed, I purchased one of those gel velcro ergonomic handles to attach to this. ($4). But it works as needed. The other straps for the sling work well too, I would adjust carefully because they are plastic, DO NOT YANK on them. and you will be fine. Zippers are smooth and strong, again, i would not pull and yank on them, but if you use this and take care of it, it will last.BOTTOM & BACK: Bottom of the bag is rubber/plastic lined to keep water out, I keep my bag away from danger as it has a ton of expensive stuff in it, plus the knife case comes out, so if needed you can just keep that close. BUT it is a nice feature. The back is padded, breathable mesh, with nice padded, embroidered and strong. Chest clip is nice to have, but I am a big dude, I do not use it.OVERALL: I love it! it is well worth the price, especially considering that the knife case, and a decent quality backpack would amount to how much this bag costs. At least this one is made by Mercer, they know knives, chefs, and it just makes sense. I like it way better than the Wusthof backpack, and that costs nearly $30+ more than this bag. It is nice quality for the price, looks great, very comfortable, utilitarian, and ergonomic in the right places. If you need an all around bag for work in & out of the kitchen, commuting, etc. BUY IT NOW!Product update: over a year later. 0 issues with this bag. Barely any wear and tear on it. No damage. Love it more and more as it breaks in.

Nada mal!

Not just for knives
Love this knife roll. In fact, I should call it a tool roll. Depending on where I’m going or what I’m doing, I’ll pack it with a selection of different kitchen or BBQ tools. It will take a full set of 5 kitchen knifes, honing steel, some spatulas, spoons etc. I would recommend you use blade guards on your sharps, Mercer do simple plastic ones that are cheep. It will also carry BBQ tools including a wide bladed spatula/flipper up to a 460mm total length. There are a couple of netted and velcro’d pockets on the outside of the protective flap which can hold stuff like speed peelers, small tongs, can opener, brushes and stuff like that. The roll itself is a good weight/quality, it has a descent strap and good capacity for me. The elasticated knife pockets are a good size for a chef knife sized handle but you can easily stuff a pairing knife and a utility knife into one pocket. The two velcro straps have plenty of adjustment so you can stuff quite a bit of gear in.If it could be improved, add a carry handle to the outside and improve the netted pockets but that’s nitt picking. Good roll, recommend.
