Amazing could not put it down 5 stars all the way
I could not put down this book it was so well written and the story was captivating yet at the same time so heart breaking this is a true story and its shocking what this young woman went through how people could sell their children like how her father did and call it marriage is something I will never understand. The different cultural differences is astounding especially knowing that some people still live like that in this day and age. This is an amazing true story about the strong determination of this young woman to get back her freedom I highly recommend this book as a must read you will not be disappointed with your purchase. I cant wait to get the second book after this A Promise to Nadia I wish I had ordered them together.

SAD
It took a long time for me to recieve this book after I ordered it from Amazon.I started to read this book and couldnt put it down.Zana Muhsen is awesome and fierce. She neve once backed down. She's a fighter.I read online that Nadia and her kids are back in the UK (as of 2004). She is (of course)accommipenied by her abusive husband. Hopefully things work out for the entire family.I read a promise to Nadia shortly after finshing SOLD. Its so sad to see how many people took advantage ofZana and her mother. Con-men saw how much money Zana had made with the publication of SOLD, leaching ontothese fragile women till they sucked the blood out of both Zana and Miriam.I am now reading Without Mercy by Zana's mother Miriam......

good book
This book is very well written. It is the true story of a father that sold his daughters into marriage. The father lied to his daughters by telling them that he was sending them on holiday but instead the nightmare begins when they realize he sold them. People married to people from other countries should read this book. People should be aware that you cannot always get the same rights you may be accustomed to when entering other countries. The story is sad but should be told.

An equally riveting and sad saga...
I really enjoyed this book. The book that I read was just republished in the UK this year (2006), however I do not believe it included any new information. I read it in about 3 sittings which usually doesn't happen because I am way too busy, but this book was very enthralling. The author describes how her father sold both her and her sister into Yemeni slavery. Ms. Muhsen describes how difficult her life was while she was a slave in Yemen. It was a miracle that she was able to get out. But she was forced to leave behind her son and sister. It is very disappointing that this tragic story is not uncommon. The only thing that is uncommon about her story was that Ms. Muhsen and her sister are both British citizens, and the author thankfully was able to get out.My only brief complaints are that the book was very crudely written. The author took very little care to ensure a level of continuity, and there were also several grammatical errors.I look forward to reading the author's follow-up book![...]

What a poignant view. A painful story.
After reading this book I had to get the follow up book "A promise to Nadia". Hard to believe this stuff is still going on in this day and age. How can a father sell his daughters into slavery etc. This poor girl thought she was an American teenager, was suddenly sold into slavery "arranged marriage" in the Yemen where her father was from. She was raped and beaten on a regular basis and lied to about her chances of getting out and her chances of ever seeing her home again. Missing her mother and her friends her only friend was her sister who was shortly after also sold into slavery "arranged marriage" by their father to the same village in The Yemen. No running water or electricity. What a culture shock for these poor girls. Her sister never recovered emotionally from the trauma. A must read- both books. Very sad.

Couldn't put it down!
I found this book to be riveting; hard to believe that this kind of circumstances go on today. I am so happy that zt least one sister was able to break free and get out of her life of subjugation and servitude to a family and husband that purchased her like an animal or piece of furniture. My heart goes out to the sister that due to circumstances and children was forced to remain in a life that was not of her choosing. It's hard to believe that this kind of behavior still goes on and is considered normal in some parts of the world.

Simply written.
I expected more sophistication in the writing and more detail. The cover is a bit tabloid, but bought the book because children sent to Yemen to be married. So-so book.

Fantastic book! Have no second thoughts and just go for it!
The book left such an impact on me that I took a few days to come out of the world of Yemen and back to reality. Very nicely written book.
