~~For the younger ones....~~
The author states this is for ages 4 to 6 and i think that age 4 would be the max.Repetition is excellent for learning but in this case it really is too much of a good thing. My goodness, I can't imagine a 6 year old going through all of these pages and not becoming bored. So, will push it to 3 stars and say it is an OK read.Would be much more interesting for the little ones to have a story to go along with it. The beginning was page after page of drawings and that part would lose the little ones, for sure. They would be wondering, as did I, what was going on??

Same Pictures Repeated With the Addition of One Word, Then Another, Then Another.....
Cat and Rat is formatted to take up the entire screen in portrait mode (holding your device vertically). The pictures and text display together on the screen like a traditional physical book. A lot of self published kindle picture book authors can't be bothered to take the time to format their work and reading them is like looking at a mess. I always like to take the time to acknowledge those who care enough about their readers and their own work to make sure everyone enjoys what they've written/illustrated to the fullest potential.Basically this is a book where the reader starts off with just pictures. Then those pictures are repeated with the one word - See, sometimes accompanied by a full stop, an apostrophe, question mark etc. The those exact same pictures are repeated with the addition of a second word, and this process continues throughout the whole book.

children's book
The Cat & Rat’s 1st word is see.The Cat & Rat’s 2nd word is the Rat.See the Rat.The Cat & Rat’s 3rd word is see.The Cat & Rat’s 4th word is the Cat.See the CatWhat comes next?I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.A very awesome book cover, fabulous colored pictures & proper font & writing style. A fairly well written children’s educational story book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational movie, an animated cartoon, a classroom PP presentation, or better yet a mini TV series. It was kind of confusing for me so I will only rate it at 3/5 stars.Thank you for the free author; Budding Reader; BookRaider; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)

Eureka! Exactly what I need.
I’ve been thinking about putting together a simple reader for a four-year-old who has recently mastered the 26 letters in the English alphabet and is now able to call out the letters in the words we show him. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I came across this series of Budding Reader books. Cat and Rat starts by presenting a series of illustrations to let the parent and the child tell the story in their own words. Then a number of relevant printed words were gradually introduced in successive short sentences that build on the previous sentences. Repetition and association reinforce memorization. Pretty soon the child realizes that he or she is actually able to read a book by themselves! This eBook includes a link to the Budding Reader website, from which you could download and print out the “writing practice” and “write your own book” worksheets, which are excellent resources for learning to write. As an extra bonus, the black and white “write your own book” worksheets could be used as coloring book.P.S. If you are wondering how the rat was able to stop the cat from devouring it, here is one possible scenario: “Stop!” said the rat to the cat, “I’m the world’s best storyteller. If you don’t eat me, I will tell you a very nice story.”

Cat and Rat: Set 1
Thanks so very much Ms Thompson for this wonderful book. Thank you so much for the review and the word to learn that refreshed my granddaughter vocabulary. We just found out that she has passed to the first grad today. I started to teach her how to read in gender garden and she is making a lot of progress. Most of the words she already knew, but we have not done site word since the virus. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like their children to learn how to read. I gave this book five stars because it very instrumental in teaching children how to read on their own with simple words. Thanks also to Ms Ferrell and to Mr Oglesby for great illustrations and colors.❤️❤️👍👍

Reading can Be Fun
This is a helpful set of books for your beginning reader. There are ten books in this se. Book one starts out with no words just pictures. Book 2 so has one word. There is a words to review in the back of the book. Book 3 has two words. By the fifth book it has five words total. By the last and tenth book there are eleven words your child can read. The motto of the company is the easiest to read books ever. There is a free parents guide to download. There is also a companion worksheet to reinforce with writing that are big enough for small hands. I found this book on a website for free for an honest review.

WORD BY WORD
The book presents a sight word approach to reading. The entire ten book set contains two characters, a cat and a rat. The first book features only three words. As the books progress one new word is added, until when one reaches the last book eleven words are introduced. The child reinforces the learned word as she progresses. By the time the reader reaches the last book, the reader is able to read simple sentences in both declarative and interrogative form. This is an easy step by step way for a parent to teach and a child to gain confidence and self esteem as she practices reading skills. The only problem with this approach is that it must be paralleled in the school system. There are many school districts who don't follow this approach to learning how to read..I would recommend this system to home school parents and parents or preschool teachers who want to encourage literacy at an early age.

Good idea for complete beginners
A Budding Reader book, which teaches kids new words in very simple style. Good idea for complete beginners, but only really appropriate for them, so age range is too wide. However, a budding reader would be very proud to be able to read the whole thing by themself, so I thought it was worth 4* (rounded up from 3.5*) for them!

Good for first readers
I thought this was just one book, but really it's more a set of books that build up in difficulty. You start with just the pictures and no words and then it builds up with more and more story. It's a good idea for absolute beginner readers, but probably wouldn't appeal for long once your child's reading has developed.

Three stars
A nice and simple book which is easy to follow. It is laid out really well but for me there was slightly too much repetition - three stars
