Great writing by an author who is considered an hitorian on the subject
If you like the singing cowboys of yesteryear, you will enjoy this book. Written with a view of easy reading, this is an incredible history of the subject. Doug B. Green (Ranger Doug of Riders In The Sky) is considered an expert on the history of cowboy movies and has collected much memorabilia surrounding the subject. You will find a lot of information in this book which may surprise you about the singing cowboys, their origin and some you may not have heard of. The timeline shifts are a little confusing, but all in all, this is a fun read.

A go-to textbook for singing cowboys
Interesting and engaging! Has everything you want to know about the facts and careers of the vast majority of Singing Cowboys. In a couple of the closer profiles I would have loved to have learned more about the people in general, like a little more gossip or reflection on their personal lives to keep up the pace. But that's definitely not what this is about, it's way more of a text book source than a biography. Which is great too!

Excellent information about the Singing Cowboy Era.
If you grew up during the time of the Singing Cowboy movies you will love this well written and documented book. If this was before your time then it will be an enlightening book and well worth the read.

slightly disappointed
"Singing in the Saddle" is a very nice book with a slightly different angle to to it's counterparts. There is information in this book that I have not found in other books about the singing cowboys. All in all the book is very well worth it's money for what it offers. What I do find disappointing however is the fact that the book does not quite live up to it's title. For example the book covers a lot of information about artistes who had nothing to do with 'singing in a saddle', such as radio and stage singers only, a good many of whom either died a long time ago and/or I have never heard of.Personally, I would have liked the book to have covered only the movie singing cowboys, not enough was said about some of them, apart of course from Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Tex Ritter. As a book that deals with the history of country and western music and the performers of such, then you are getting good value for money.

Great Book!
Very good book covering the history of the singing cowboy. Ranger Doug is more than a singer as shown by this volume. Not only does he cover all the famous cowboys but he also tells us about many we never heard of. Can be used as a textbook, reference book or just for entertainment.

Die Geschichte(n) der singenden Cowboy-Darsteller
wieder einmal ein Buch in Original-Sprache, also US-Englisch.
