Extremely Sharp Results
This honing rod is absolutely fantastic. I have another ceramic honing rod that I have used for about a year now and I can immediately tell this one is far better at obtaining a much sharper edge on all of my knives after a few uses. It's an absolute dream to use. I start on the honing rod and move to the leather strops once I'm done to obtain a truly sharp edge. I have a few couple hundred dollar knives and this is exactly what you want if you want to take your knives from being dull to being professionally sharp. I am not a spokes person nor am I someone sponsored to talk about it at all. I just really love cooking and sharp knives and this thing has made me extremely happy. I have never been happier sharpening my knives then after getting rid of my clunky terrible old ceramic honing rod and using this one instead. Ps: get the 2k-3k option. 1k-2k is good but if you want it really sharp get the black one. And you don't need both. It will just take a little bit longer to sharpen using the 2k-3k since it doesn't take off as much material but the edge will be a lot sharper.

Balanced, Handy, Attractive Must-Have.
Purchased to compliment a new chef's set of cutlery. Arrived quickly in a nice presentation. Three areas to take note of: 1. The handle is a firm black plastic with a nice holding shape, however, you won't hold it much. The best technique for honing is done with the rod down and handle held by your fingers. 2. The brown ceramic is sturdy with the two honing grits differentiated by feel. Each grit has two partitions 180 degrees apart (east/west and north/south for the angularly challenged). 3. The hanging ring is firm in the handle. That's helpful if you have to reach for a hook as it won't flop. Works very well once a technique is gained. Remember, it's for HONING, NOT SHARPENING. Use this after cutting board use to keep the very edge straight and razor-like.

Looks elegant, beautiful presentation, superb design
I've been collecting and professionally writing about knives and sharpeners for many years. My first impression of this ceramic sharpening rod was it's looks. It comes in a beautiful black box and is very long, looks expensive. This would make a great gift! Also I see many people complaining about their white ceramic rods getting grey streaks.... That is the steel from your knife being imbedded in the ceramic, it's normal part of removing since steel from your edge.A ceramic sharpening rod is different from a steel honing rod. A steel honing rod just re-aligns the cert edge of your blade so that the edge no longer has slight deviations in it, the steel rod another the edge so that instead of looking like this with microscopic misalignments --_----__-- your edge is straight and aligned like this ---------- so it cuts better.A ceramic sharpening rod not only aligns the edge but also removes a little bit of steel to sharpen AND align the knife edge. What many people will like about this BLACK CERAMIC rod is that it does not show any grey streaks like the white ceramics do.I love the ceramic so far. There are grooves on each "side" of the cylindrical rod. I have personally found that these types of grooves leave microscopic serrations on the edge, which greatly improved slicing cuts. There are two types of cutting to consider when choosing your edge:. A pretty smooth edge like a razor is good for push-cutting, like chopping vegetables straight through. A slightly serrated edge is best to "bite" into the material as you slice with the edge instead of just push.I prefer to hone my edge with the smooth part of the rod to align the edge of my knife until it shaves hair with a push-cut, then finish up with with a few strops on the ridged grooves of the rod to put some micro-serrations on the edge. The handle is very comfortable and ergonomic. The plastic has a tiny bit of seams on it from the injection mold, which is the only thing about this tool that looks a little cheap. But it feels and works great! The rod is very long. And again, being all black, looks elegant. I think this would be a great gift! For the price, this looks far more expensive than it is. It's a great bargain!Made in Japan and Taiwan. These are my first impressions. I will write more if I encounter any issues.

Just what I wanted, except that a soft tip would be better.
The rod works fine and seems better than the steel one that I already had. Its fine grit seems more gentle: I've never used its more coarse grit but that is less course than the steel one was, I believe. I had wanted one with a soft tip, so that I could put it point down on a counter and stroke away from my hand, but its tip is just rounded ceramic. Not a big problem at all, but one might prefer one with a rubber tip.

Great sharpener/hone
The 2 different grit areas are great, and holds up extremely well. Can bring back a clean crisp edge on anything. Does not remove too much metal at all, even with daily use.

Nice stone
Works great. Was delivered quickly. I like that it has a ring so I can hang it up. I got the 12” model. 10” would also work well.
