I first saw this book at a graphic art store. I pulled it off the shelf because it looked so mysterious, like a very thick old bible. At the time, I did not have the funds to purchase it. I waited patiently and then saw it was on Amazon and I ordered it straight away. I will never regret getting this book. It has been so well laid out, the colors, the style, the mood, it is truly exceptional work. Just flipping through it I have learned so much about layout/pattern design, as a letter from each font has been used to create a graphic on the left, and the full font is displayed on the right. I had no problems seeing the mood of the fonts whatsoever, besides, the book comes with a CD so you can easily see the fonts on your computer. I have already shared this book with several others who were also impressed by the magnitude of fonts and the work that must have gone into the research alone. There was much love put into the creation of this book, and it shows!

If you love letters even half as much as I do, you need this.
My friend: "I can make copies of a few of your favorite pages, if you want."Me: "You'll be making copies for the rest of your natural life. I'll just buy my own."This is a giant, delightful tome full of what feels like every version of blackletter known to mankind.Calligraphy practice tip: I often scan and print out increased-size versions of these pages and trace them for lettering practice. Tracing! What blasphemy! Actually, plenty of artists trace—its a great way to learn muscle memory and consistency. Just don't try to pass it off as your own original work, okay?

Awesome reference for script heads
Is this the Bible of calligraphy? No, but it might be the closest thing to it.

Stunning
Absolutely stunning & beautiful study on Fraktur. This book is truly a gem if you are looking for typographic inspiration or history on Fraktur, Blackletter, or Gothic.

What a screamingly cool book!
Interesting essays, a wonderful selection of typefaces, almost half of which are on the enclosed CD, and two sewn in bookmarks in the signature colors - what's not to love? This is a really fun resource for graphic design artists as well as calligraphers. In addition to some fairly out-there fonts, there are a number of truly classic one, including the typefaces used by J Gutenberg and Wm Morris. Many thanks to all concerned!

Must buy book for gothic/blackletter fans
Great reference for ideas and inspiration. Too bad this book is out of print and very rare.

Curious book.
I'm a font-freak, so I think seeing all these German-style faces is loads of fun.Seriously, if you are interested in type or need a book that looks like a Bible, this your deal. Looking at the scripture-like cover, no one knows what it is about, even if they speak German.Put it on a bedside table. It will impress your religious visitors (if you take them to your bedroom) and it's absolutely unreadable.Wo die Liebe hinfallt.

Good!
An excellent edition to my collection of calligraphy books. This is not a 'how to' book, this is a wonderful resource book containing an extensive range of gothic alphabets.

Pink and Black but no Fishnet Stockings
I love the idea. There are tons of blackletter fonts not included - inevitably, of course - and I'd have been happier if the description had been clear that the fonts on the CD are all free fonts. The index of designers lists both the modern designer and the original in the case of a revival, which is a nice touch, and the designs on facing pages are a lot of fun. The intro is in both English and German. The book has the physical appearance of a prayer book or Bible, complete with pink and black bookmarks.Definitely one of the more interesting font samplers I've seen and should be on the shelf of anyone serious about blackletter, and especially Fraktur type.

Great Inspiration
A great source of inspiration for modern black letter typography treatments! Beautifully designed book cover as well, it has piqued the curiosity of both designer and non-designer friends that have seen it on my bookshelf!
