Notice I said "flagship". To ordinary people this will not mean much, but to true audiophiles, it means the highest level of quality and performance a headphone by any major manufacturer can achieve. This is a very expensive headphone, but it easily competes with, and even beats, offerings that are three to four times the price. What are the strengths of the HD800s ? Simple- ultra-wide soundstage, razor-sharp imaging and incredible micro-detail retrieval. As the Germans would say, in these departments it is truly "einmalig" ( one of a kind ) ! It is not a bass-heavy headphone, so headbangers should stay away. It is for those who want to hear every last bit of detail from their music. Needless to say, the better the source quality, the better the headphone's performance. And no, you do not have to shell out kilo-bucks on a DAC and amp combo to bring this unique headphone to life. A budget of 40 to 50 K rupees on both will suffice perfectly. Poorly recorded and mastered music is not for these cans- they will immediately let you know. Garbage in, garbage out. What genres is it suited for ? My personal opinion is that ANY genre will sound out of this world with the HD800s, provided the recording is of high standard. They are not just for classical and jazz. That is a complete misnomer. I use them for pop, rock, trance, edm and movies. Gaming is another area where they shine. To make a long story short, these are endgame headphones. My personal journey has ended with them. I have tested many expensive cans, but at this price point, the performance is world-class and should satisfy the most demanding of listeners. They are also the most comfortable cans I've worn- at 330 grams, they can sit on your head for hours without causing any discomfort. The build quality is top-notch, as it is made in Ireland. Getting replacement ear pads for these can be a hassle, so watch out for the Sennheiser website. They'll inform you when the pads are available. By the way, they can also be plugged into a good integrated amplifier or AV receiver and deliver mind-blowing results. Just remember this- once you get used to this level of perfection, you CANNOT go back to mid-tier cans. Legendary cans like the HD650 or HD600 will sound like AM radio after hearing them. I am selling all my mid-tier cans as I cannot bear listening to them any longer. Now you decide whether you want to make such a massive investment. Personally, I see people shelling out 80K on a smartphone they'll use for five years at best. On the other hand, the HD800s will last you for decades with proper care. Plus, they have a great resale value should you feel like it. I've stopped using my speakers after acquiring this technical marvel. Sennheiser, you are truly outstanding !

Absolutely the best even when compared to much more expensive high end audiophile headphones. Much better than the closed back Sennheiser HD 820 in terms of soundstage and musicality imho. Lighter and more comfortable too.

I was disappointed to see that it's price is so less. So I bought two sets of this, and gifted one to the delivery boy.

Let's start with my audiophile journey.As a musician, i was always looking for enjoy the music and sounds as well as hearing the truth of recordings.I own following headphones.Sony XM4, HD 8 DJ, HD 660S and now HD 800S.Trust me, Sony XM4 is good headphone for normal consumer who looking for all rounder music.HD 8 DJ - I am still finding low end (bass) like that, so deep but this headphone is meant for Dj and focused music listening. Consider for EDM mostly.HD 660S - Favourite - if you don't not afford HD 800S please go with HD 660S. It almost everything which HD 800S offers. For Indian music and specially vocals. You will hear the structure of instruments and vocals. This is top class headphone Even HD 800S could not match with Vocal structuring of sound. Just make sure to EQ it properly for lower frequency.HD 800 S - It feels like you listening music in Theatre or speaker. Very detailed and i can hear something that was missing in older headphones. It's Soundstage allows you to hear individual samples that are used in music. There is almost 80% similarity to HD 660S, but space between instruments and presentation music is really top on HD 800S. This headphone needs an AMP DAC. A decent DAC may cost half as much as this headphone.Always remember, it is just a headphone & nothing else, it's your mind which represents music to you. I even enjoy music in Rs. 1k to 5k cost headphones too. Not everyone need Ferrari to travel and still we all enjoy traveling with our vehicle.If you really afford it then buy it, you will enjoy.Thank you Sennheiser for your 79 years of research and development in audio technology. this is the result which we are getting and enjoying our favourite music.

This is a TOTL headphone. Buy it if you have the proper gear to drive it. There are lots of reviews available from reputed audiophile websites. Check them out before spending your hard-earned money.P.S. I am satisfied with the purchase and HD800s ends my headphone quest.

Awesome product with tremendous sound. I was using HD800 before this and I must say sennheiser does a drastic change between these two products if you are planning for 800 instead of that go for this one you will definitely gonna love it’s bass now moving to comfort it is little bit heavy but you don’t feel such weight after wearing it for long time it becomes like the part of you. However I’m giving this 4 star because instead of having amazon prine it takes almost 1.5 month to delivery but the product is just magnificent.

This is a TOTL product with stellar soundstage, fantastic imaging and excellent comfort. It envelops you in sound with its large earphones. Yet, there is no fatiguing effect here. It is so light and comfortable, you can forget you have it on. The only thing that remains is sound.
