Perfect "first comic for brand-new readers"
A youngster peering down into a small hole in the ground on the cover of WE DIG WORMS! captures readers’ attention immediately. Will she really see a worm in that hole? Of course! Just inside the cover, the worm pops up out of the hole and begins the crawl into the book, panel by panel. But is this a press conference for worms as implied by the title page? Yes and no. This is a cartoon book with young reporter characters that joke as they ask questions and answer with true facts about worms. Kevin McCloskey’s active figures painted with earthy colors on recycled grocery bags, accurate depictions of the earthworm environment, and well- paced speech bubble text animations, make this book a perfect first comic for brand-new readers, grades K – 1, ages 5 – 6. At the end of the book, tips for parents and teachers suggest ways for them to read comics with kids while they not only enjoy the book themselves, but also as they encourage young readers to make informed guesses about words and talk about the pictures. This clever book is sure to stimulate imaginations and become a favorite of kids in young reader book groups.

I DIG WORMS!
It's a MUST HAVE for any age; I had the great pleasure to preview this book before release date, and it's an absolute delight. I went on to pre-order more from Amazon as gifts, and will most likely do so again and again. Kevin McCloskey shows as a very capable and clever illustrator ideal for this project, with materials, content, and medium all in harmony. His whimsical drawings radiate from the pages with knowledge, ingenuity, kindness, and fun. I was fortunate to hear Mr. McCloskey's explanation of his research on the subject and artistic, creative, and technical process with renowned art director Francoise Mouly, and it's invigorating to know what these two great minds brought to this book, and all the more enlivening to read it.

Great Purchase for school libraries!!!!
This is a great book for young readers, interesting facts and the illustrations are a wonderful compliment to the information presented. This book would coordinate nicely with art lessons and paper bag art. I cannot wait to share it with my classes. Given that graphic novels are popular with older students this would a great addition to any school library where younger patrons want to read books like the big kids.

Five Stars
This book is a fun way teaching kids about worms. Most nonfiction books are boring. Not this one.
