Forever Ruined for the Ordinary: The Adventure of Hearing and Obeying God's Voice

I have read this book more than once and consider it a "MUST-HAVE" book for any Christian that is serious concerning their walk with Christ Jesus as their Lord. I have given away numerous copies in the past and will continue to do so because its message is vital. To read it you must let the Holy Spirit guide and quicken the message to you. It is one of those books when you start reading it you won't want to stop until you've read the last page. When I first read it, I went back into the store and bought the other 21 copies they had.

This book was very interesting. I doubt everyone would have the same experiences, but that doesn't mean they aren't authentic. Joy has apparently been mightily used of the Lord, and that should be the goal of each one of us who profess the name of the Lord!

Joy has revolutionized my approach to the unexpected changes God's promptings can "wreak" upon my life! (Some of them, like selling everything and moving overseas have not exactly been "fun," but each brings a gift of growth unheard of by the part of us that would prefer to be a couch potato and stay within the comfortable coma of complacency. She is quite an inspiration to keep that sense of divine adventure alive despite life's tragedies and trials.

I remember reading this when I was younger and recently decided to pick it back up again. I highly recommend hearing what Joy Dawson has to say about hearing God's voice, building that relationship, and letting it change you for the rest of your life.

I was 'raised' charismatic from the time I met the Lord at 33 years of age, where I learned much about God and the moving of the Spirit, and Dawson was my mainstay then. Hadn't heard or read her for decades and so, bought this book and read it - about 5 months or so ago. I don't remember much that I read, and don't think I would pick it up again.I get a funny feeling I can't quite place when I read books about God answering a person's every prayer. As far as testimony books go, it seems shallow after reading people such as Richard Wurmbrand, or Brother Yun, who suffered so immensely for the faith and came forth as gold. This book was OK, but I wouldn't bother recommending it.One reviewer talked about the warnings in the book: " one was about a woman who was kidnapped for over an hour because she didn't heed God's warning to stay at home, "Perhaps she might have avoided being kidnapped had she heeded the warning, but sometimes we don't know if we are being warned by God, or if we just have a 'funny' feeling .... so it is important to learn about God, spend time with him, learn his ways, but I think there are more profound teachers to learn from.

Another necessary book for the library of all Christians; we like Christ and the apostles are not of this world and should stop acting as if we were.

This book was great in showing me how much more I could be praying. I had never concidered praying over so many different things and I was able to read about how things could be greatly changed for the better if I started on this journey. I highly recommend this book. It is very encouraging.

I grew up not believing all the promises in the word! This book is awesome on how the Lord speaks to His children.

A very enlightening book, giving an insight into how we hear from our Father God, some I have experienced, one in which I had realised that I had not recognised at the time. I highly recommend this book, to those who believe we can and those who doubt. I leave those who doubt this question: "Why would a son or daughter, not hear their Father speak?

A great book with simple clear teaching on how God speaks to us in many ways. Joy has the advantage of age and wisdom and an uncanny knack of forestalling criticism before she makes her next point. Especially helpful on the barriers we have in the way to hearing from God. Her anecdotes and stories from her long life of ministry and her family are always to the point and insightful as is her use of Scripture. I now find I can learn verses so much more easily.

I could have read this book through from cover to cover in one sitting, it was so exciting and easy to read. But I decided to take it slower and really absorb all that Joy Dawson was saying. I will certainly be looking at other books that Joy has written - her style is easy but the content inspiring. Just what I needed - a real boost!

This book really grabs your attention. It is excellent reading for those who want to learn how to walk closer to God.
