Royal Magic (The Elves of Lessa Book 2)

A Different sort of Marriage of Convenience
This one took many chapters to grow on me. I didn’t understand Fyn and Shea had done her best to make us dislike Benjimir in the first book of the series. But Fyn is a kick-butt elf who finally embraced the dormant power within her. I’m not sure the romantic angle got the attention it deserved to be believable. It it realistic that two royals could be so insecure? I don’t know. But I liked the idea of it. Plus, battles with magic are amazing, so it was great to finally get some of that.

Second as good as the First
The story of Prince Benjimir and Princess Gwendafyn spins off from book one in its own charming way. Watching a marriage of need grow into a marriage of love was fun! And Gwendafyn's magic, and Benjamin's support brought it together well.

One of my favorite books!!
I love this book and have read it so many times, I’ve lost count. It’s amazing and still makes me giddy for Fyn and Ben. Their love is adorable and I just can’t get over this series. Love it!

One trapped in a position she had a hard time tolerating. One trapped in unrequited love.United in a marriage of convenience, their prisons gradually open their doors to a freedom neither really expected. This is a really good book and series!

Great second book
I do so love a marriage first, fall in love second story! And who couldn't love to such unique characters. No one is perfect, we all pick the imperfections we can live with. Good progression of the overarching story too.

4 and 1/2
Summary: Princess Gwendafyn of the elves seizes the chance to escape from her people’s traditions and rules when she asks Prince Benjimir to marry her. After he agrees, he is free to like her sister as he has for a long time, and she is excited about what their marriage could mean politically for both their kingdoms. Of course, it’s just a matter of time before their pretend act turns into something more and Gwendafyn finds herself falling in love with the man who’s never even known she existed.Rating: Four and a half. Good plot, great hate/love romance.Cautions with reading: One mention of the word hell, other than that though, the romance was clean and fun to watch over time.Favorite quote: ‘Even if she can beat a well-trained soldier—which was a fairly wonderful sight—she’s not only an instigator, she’s adorable.’ -Prince Benjimir

A Welcome Reprieve from the First
Okay, Red Rope of Fate was not my favorite KM Shea book. In fact, the entire thing drove me nuts. Which is why I was thoroughly concerned about getting Royal Magic-- I did not like the cover, first of all, and I couldn't stand Red Rope of Fate. But all my fears were basically for nothing :) Royal Magic was fantastic! Prince Benjimir has been exiled from Calnor after his part in trying to separate Colonel Arion and Lady Tarinthali in the first book, but now he's back, and he's not thrilled about it. Princess Yvrea of Lessa shows no interest in him and is now being courted by suitors much more likable than himself. So of course he is shocked when Princess Gwendafyn, Yvrea's younger sister, proposes a marriage alliance between the two of them. Now this is one of those "convenience marriage" books, or whatever they're called. This means that Benjimir and Gwendafyn become married before they fall in love. I wouldn't normally read such a book because of content, but I've always trusted Kitty to write good clean books, so I gave this one a try. Five stars, no less. Great read-- and reread! I do have a problem with the narrating style, though. It used to be nonexistent, but for some reason now Kitty's more recent books have had this. We are in these characters' heads. Way. Too Much. Like, half the time they have these really long, unrealistic thoughts that would do a zillion times better as just plain narration, but other than that, I was fine. Can't wait fo the next book, however far off it may be. I'm hoping one of the other Calnoric royals, maybe one of Benjimir's younger brothers, since that will give us plenty of time with Tari--because let me tell you I liked her a lot better in this book-- and Fyn. Also, I am one of those extremely curious readers who would very much like to meet Seer Ringali's family. I think we would all admire them a lot ;) Anyway, it was a good read, and I look forward to whatever is up in Lessa next!

Adventure
With still more characters becoming closer , the tides of change keep rolling in. Beauty, brawn and brilliance is at every turn of the page. Anticipating so much more as I hurriedly love sling to the next book.

Romance, action, emotion, it's all here and it's all amazing
“There is nothing inherently bad in having power. The bigger question is how one uses that power.”Fantasy romance marriage of convenience with mutual pining alert! The elves of Lessa and humans of Calnor are great friends... aside from the fact that most of them can't speak the same language.Meet Princess Gwendafyn, an elf of Lessa. She's trapped by tradition, terrified of spending the rest of her life pretending to be someone she isn't. Her way out: entering a marriage of convenience with a human. She'll gain control of her life and pave the way for a new future for humans and elves.'He might be an idiot, but he's my idiot.'Meet Prince Benjimir, exiled for attempting to ruin the first ever elf/human relationship he's a disgraced former Crown Prince of the human country of Calnor. In unrequited love with Gwendafyn's sister Benjimir also happens to be one of the few humans able to speak elvish.'Gwendafyn burned like the full moon and was filled with unbridled beauty and passion that called to him.'I never knew a villain turned love interest story would be so incredibly swoonworthy but this book knocked it out of the park. Gwendafyn has no illusions about her marriage being anything other than a deal with Benjimir for their own purposes, she expects nothing but to finally be her own person. Having always had to hide who she truly is, the immediate acceptance and support from Benjimir totally throws her as do the glimpses she gets of him behind his mask. *cue pining #1*Benjimir is unapologetically a morally grey character - and he's one of my favourite K.M. Shea heroes. The way he accepts Gwendafyn for who she is and encourages her *cries in hearts*. I absolutely adored the way he protected her and was so affectionate when he decided he wanted her *cue pining #2* (seriously the confusion his affection caused Gwendafyn - STUNNING).'You are entirely your own person. And while you might torture yourself over your differences and allow others to criticize them, the truth is they are something you should rejoice in if you so choose.'These books are so sweet and I love all the antics the language barrier causes. There was also an amazing fantasy plotline in this book that was just flawless. Gwendafyn had a badass female awakening and I challenge you not to internally squeal.'It was not the strike of a storm, but the awakening, the rekindling of a magic not seen on the continent in centuries.'This whole book = perfection. Romance, action, emotion, it's all here and it's all amazing.

Great sequel!
Benji's character, backstory and behaviour is explored and developed really well here. I absolutely adored the characters and the twists and turns. I love how fresh and different and yet how connected the two books are. One really builds on the other. So, while you can enjoy each seperately I really do recommend reading these two in order, if for no other reason as to enjoy every detail.I felt slightly let down by two plot developments which weren't explored and explained as well as could be, but it didn't detract from the overall story and the characters blossomed beautifully.I hope I get to visit again. I'd love to 'see' more of Lessa as well.

Shea's the elvesof less a series so far has been a fun and delightful read. The characters and imaginative setting are engaging and really fun. V different from the longer series of books , these books -so for I've read 2 of 3- are equally enjoyable.

Magic
I thoroughly enjoyed both Elves of Lessa novels, they made me feel happy, they made me smile and laugh. Two extremely feel good books, I love a bit of romance and a happy ending. Even the lack of dragons didn't spoil it for me, elves and humans together was special. Magic
