A Good Technique I'm Glad I Learned...
I purchased this book a while back and recently re-read it. Frankly I missed some things the first time through and I'm glad I read it again! It would be easy to overlook or underestimate the value of what Greg writes, so it pays to read it, try it, re-read it. Greg is very accessible online and will answer your questions. I appreciate that about him. This is an excellent INTRODUCTION to the topic of VRT. It's far from "everything" that can be said about it. I purchased it on special and for a few dollars, I was satisfied with my purchase. Most importantly I actually USE the information because it's proven itself helpful to me.My interest these days is largely strength endurance. I do other forms of training and dismissed VRT at first for my purposes, but find myself using VRT now as a "finisher" ... a way to put the final touches on my workouts which otherwise are more based on calisthenic action with some endurance emphasis. Here's what I missed the first time. After showing the basic exercises and focusing on the "pump" for muscle growth, Greg discusses an endurance routine using VRT exercises. I'd entirely missed that. This ties VRT even more perfectly into what I'm trying to accomplish, but I'd done exactly what he warned about! I had read too quickly and not paid attention to that key bit of information! Now I will be looking for ways to include VRT earlier in my workouts. I see now it helps in ways I'd never dreamed. As I mentioned, it would be easy to underestimate the value of this little book. Why not 5 stars? I did think the formatting for Kindle might have been done better (a publisher's issue, not the author's)... Also Greg has answered enough questions on his forum since publication that I believe this could be expanded some, though the essentials are amply present in the work as it stands.

Horribly formatted.
The content may be good but the formatting is so bad that it is a huge distraction. Birch publishing, which publishes mostly unreadable books by Marlon Birch, had a hand in publishing this as an ebook.

Workout with your mind.
This book does traditional weightlifting exercises with no actual weights. Your imagination uses your antagonist muscles to supply resistance. Very novel approach, at first I was skeptical but after the workouts my muscles were cooked. So there is definitely something to these VRT methods. Kindle book is very good format, pictures are adequate and text very readable.

Solid Instruction
I believe this book has been out for some time now, and since then, there have been other muscle-tensing/visualization books and courses on the Net. The great mistake, in my opinion, is to compare a regime such as VRT with weightlifting or bodyweight exercises etc. You're not going to lift an Olympic barbell weighing hundreds of pounds with VRT, because you are not actually training to do that. You are in fact visualizing yourself lifting. Nevertheless, the effects of VRT on the mind and body can and will be positively noticeable, as always depending on how hard you work at it, mentally and physically.Like all training, you get out of it what you put in, and this book clearly explains this form of exercise. Okay, there are several distracting spelling errors and printing mistakes, but this is not a novel, it's an instruction book that presents clear directions and workout schedules for anyone who is perhaps tired of hauling around heavy equipment, or paying large gym fees, and who wishes to engage in an effective exercise regime wherever they stand.I give this book a well-deserved 4 stars.

I purchased the original booklet in 1987, I thought it was BS, so i gave it to a friend...How wrong I was! after more than 30 years, it is the only exercise system that work for me, I am free from all the pains that go with my age. I don't give a 10 star. because there are no 10 stars:in the review!

Nice program for when travelling/as a supplemental
I purchased Greg's video of this material. It is nice to have the convenient resource on my kindle. I do wish he would update the pics from the 70's though. I use this as a supplement to powerlifting.

Pretty Good by all accounts
Well I think Greg Mangan did a fantastic job with bringing out his 1980s version. I do know Greg is bringing out an advanced version of his plan and I look forward to it.

Some muscles from the start are poor at contracting but I found that in a little ...
I bought this ebook because I was researching about the mind-muscle connection when exercising. I read a book by David Bolton about the strongmen of the late 1800's and early 1900's and how they used 3-5 pound weights to achieve their physiques. Sandow was among them. I actually found it easier to achieve full muscle contraction without weights. Thats when I discovered VRT. It really works when you start getting the hang of it. Some muscles from the start are poor at contracting but I found that in a little over a week of doing these exercises, most of the contractions are so strong, i can barely finish my reps. Somerimes I have ro take a breath and then squeeze out rhe last few. i have been sore everyday since I started and my arms grew a full 1/4" over the last few days and I have been doing calesthenics while contracting my muscles previous to that and never made progress like rhat. EVER. That is all from doing VRT exclusively. I would recommend this book to anyone from beginners to advanced bodybuilders. Even if VRT is applied while lifting weights or doing pushups, you will be using much less weight and doing much easier calesthenics exercises like pushups off a counter and get extremely sore the next day. I was just beginning one arm variations of pushups from Convict Conditioning when I discovered flexing and focus on the muscles used while exercising. Then I had to go back to doing countertop pushups while flexing. Now that I am getting the hang of VRT and getting a better mind muscle connection, if I was to go back to these exercises I would have ro start doing pushuos off a wall. Lol. Even Sandow mentioned something about weights not really being needed. They used the 3-5 pound dumbells mainly to get people used to flexing while exercising. As a result of my continuous soreness and progress that I am already seeing in the mirror, I will be using VRT exclusively for a while. If progress isnt being made anymore, i will continue to use it while doing calesthenics.

Lazy rehash of old booklet to get some extra cash
I can confirm what a previous reviewer has written - this 'book' is basically just a reprint of an old booklet that the author provides in a separate package that comes with a DVD demonstrating this method of exercise. Now the DVD you can get is just a transfer of a recording that the author did for a VHS sometime in the 1980s/1990s I believe - however while low quality it is a useful demonstration of this form of exercise. The book that is available here is primarily the information and photos that are in the booklet that comes with the DVD, along with some added ideas for routines to follow. This book appears to be using some kind of 'print on demand' facility, which is fair enough, however it is badly written with spelling and grammar errors. It also is badly formatted, with the type and photos looking a mess. The photos are also small, black and white, and as mentioned before, the same photos that come with the booklet and were taken many years ago.If, like myself, you have the previously released DVD and booklet, I would advise against buying this too - I thought this would be a newly written book with more information and ideas on this type of exercise. I guess I should have known better, as I asked the question as to whether this had new information on the forum at [...] where the author sometimes participates and also sells the DVD package - and my question was not answered. It is a shame that I feel that I have to write such a negative review, as the exercise method itself is of value when studied and practised for some time. If you don't already have the DVD package or know anything about this form of exercise, then it may have some value, however you would probably need to spend more time reading up on the internet and Transformetrics site/forum to 'get' this way of exercising, as most people don't, especially to start with. The sad thing is that I suspect that most people who would know about this and be likely to buy the book would be those of us who already know quite a bit about it and maybe already have the DVD. I learned nothing new from this book at all. It is also quite expensive for the size and poor quality of the book.

Ok, but I wouldn't buy it again
I've bought this book a couple of weeks ago and I'm honest: I'm disappointed. I don't say that VRT (= visual resistance training) doesn't work but if you expect to get a systematic approach how to use it - forget it.To be honest the book is just a collection of classic BB-exercises and the instruction to move as if you were using heavy weight. That's pretty much it. There is a large routine section though, but it suffers from the same problem of the whole book - bad editing (columns, various font sizes, line breaks etc.), superficial content and bad presentation.I give Mr. Mangan props for putting forward this concept but this book could've been a lot better. My humble opinion.
