The Search for the Perfect Protein: The Key to Solving Weight Loss, Depression, Fatigue, Insomnia, and Osteoporosis
G**N
An important book either for patients, or for doctors with missing knowledge about daily health.
Actually, I bought a copy of this book after nearly in wain searching finding a first step book concerning how the proteins works, for such one to be read before starting in my big professional book about proteins. And then when reading the frontside I found that I had had double luck, for there I read the word osteoporosis. Because actually I suffer from osteoporosis, whit scanning’s during 2 ½ years and all showing – 3.2, and besides have decreased 5 inches in height. And I own nearly 50 books, mostly books for doctor education, about osteoporosis, and bones, but newer before met writings about connections between protein and osteoporosis.Especially I like the book for the excellent explanation about amino acids, and how they by 51 (Insulin) or hundreds of L sided amino acids are connected to build proteins. And not forgetting the many interesting patients’ cases, detailed in writing about problems, measures, and results. It's a bit more than 40 years ago since I bought the first danish books about how to live healthy, even thought then already knowing not to live by the American food and Coca Cola. But now, 19 years ago settling down here I Chiang Mai, I here have met many doctors who warn against vitamins, minerals, eggs, and so on, and besides, as we read about in the book, destroys patients correct pH value in the stomach, on 1 – 2, either by drugs or by missing knowledge, thinking that holes in the gut is caused by too hard an acid, and then resulting in patients getting more health problems, by getting the pH up to for example 4.As he writes in the book doctors among other have been brainwashed against eggs and cholesterol. And even though that actual doctors here in Chiang Mai after up to eight years, have had to admit that I am right, still all of the persons whom I here knows don’t trust me, as I’m only engineer, so not a doctor, and they continue in having their health being decreasing by doctor. It’s many horrible cases I have heard about among other on a single day, in one hospital, 52 women having cut of their breasts, caused by cancer. As doctor learn: “drugs or surgery”.On the side 129 we read about a serious matter concerning a twelve-year-old girl who in wain had visited 20 doctor who didn’t discover that she was suffering of gasoline octane booster additives. It’s decades since I last read parallel problems, so it was nearly forgotten. In the chapter 10, Minkoff is not sweet against psychiatry, and most of the psychiatrist, by not solving but hiding the problems with drugs, instead of actually solving the diseases. And by my own knowledge I can only highly agree with him. Actually, way back in 2003 I for the first time went to a psychiatrist and then told him that I feared that street problems, caused by my wife, would result in epileptic-like seizures. He rejected that there could be such a connection. Then af ¾ of a year later it stated, and now the psychiatrist told me that I suffered from epilepsy, and put me on a drug. And since, put on drugs, and disabled by accidents, I still is stressed and 6 times I have tried suicide, and the actual psychiatrist, and the other, here in Chiang Mai won’t admit that I’m suffering from stress/trauma. I own 28 books about epilepsy, and it’s found the around 50% of seizures are caused by stress, trauma, drugs and so on.And excellent book, for me especially, concerning learning about the importance between missing proteins connected to weak bones. For the doctor who always only talks about calcium, vitamin C, and gymnastic, against osteoporosis, I will give them a copy of the side with the actual osteoporosis case in the book. And probably give the doctor library yet another book.

Very enlightening and educational!
This is a book that everyone should read if they care about staying healthy. Its informative and not highly technical where you can get lost in terminology and who needs all the scientific background. He explains what you need to know easily and concisely. My eating habits are healthy overall but this is information about proteins that I have not run across from anyone else. I also am purchasing his products such as meal replacement drink, a bar for a snack and other such items. Get educated and change your life for the better. :)

A Potentially Very Significant Breakthrough
The author presents cogent arguments for the use of supplementary essential amino acids. I will repeat _some_ of these arguments here in an over-simplified form for brevity.Peptides are molecules composed from amino acids. Many hormones are simple peptides. Proteins are complex peptides. Proteins are the building blocks and catalytic enzymes of our bodies. There are 22 types of amino acids. An Essential Amino Acid [EAA} is one of the 8 types that human bodies cannot manufacture. At least one EAA is required for constructing most of the thousands of types of protein that we need for living. In most proteins, more than 50% of the aminos are essential ones. When a particular EAA that is not available in a cell, that cell cannot produce any protein which requires that EAA. A vicious cycle ensues when the gut enzymes (proteins) needed for protein digestion are under-produced since we get EAAs only from food. The author’s remedy for escaping this vicious cycle is to consume a manufactured, correctly proportioned mixture of EAAs as discrete molecules. These can be absorbed directly into the intestines without the need for enzymes to breakdown ingested proteins into their constituent amino acids. The commercial product name is “Perfect Amino”.Aging people tend to digest protein inefficiently. This leads to loss of muscle mass and further deterioration of the digestive process.Minerals, vitamins, and essential fats are also required for the production of the proteins of life. For example, the hemoglobin molecule incorporates iron. Mineral absorption is also inhibited if the gut is not sufficiently renewed with vital proteins that enable the stomach to maintain acidity.Dr. Minkoff implicates insufficient availability of EAAs in the formation of osteoporosis, “cancer, autoimmune diseases, dementia, Parkinson’s, Lyme Disease, and chronic fatigue.” In patients with any of these, he also looks for related causes like parasites, toxic bacteria, heavy metal, and chemical poisoning. As a 72-year-old rock climber, I am most interested in arresting and reversing my long-term decline in lean muscle mass. I was disappointed to find no specific instructions in the book for dosing with Perfect Amino. That would be a useful appendix to a future edition. I did find that the 5-gram dose recommended on the Perfect Amino bottles is half the dose discussed in the book for extreme athletes and clinical patients. Before reading the book, I used Perfect Amino to lose weight in conjunction with resistance training, including pullups, squats with more than my body weight on the bar, and heavier deadlifts. I lost 6 pounds in two weeks while gaining strength. Max loads increased by 15%. But, I did not gain muscle mass as measured by a Fitbit electrical resistance and weight scale. I probably did not consume Perfect Amino in the optimum manner and quantity. I will soon try again to gain lean mass while maintaining or reducing my current 22% body fat.Extraordinary claims call for extraordinary proofs. This book’s claims are not backed by double-blind, replicated experiments. The claims _are_ supported by less rigorous clinical case studies and by many endorsements from athletes and former patients. Some reviewers have truthfully noted that the book is an advertisement for the author’s commercial product. The advertised claims may be valid and helpful, but, Reader beware.

Mind shattering with very valuable data
I am generally considered amongst my friends as knowledgeable in living a healthy life style so I wasn't sure what I was going to get out of this. I got so much information, it all made complete sense and stripped away false information or invented information. The book itself is very easy to follow and simply makes sense. I didn't walk away confused but walked away understanding the basics of health and what I need to do (as I enter mid life) to prepare for a stronger and happy older years (in 20 years).I think if everyone in the world read this book, we could put the fast food industry out of business and we could get rid of so much crap that is sold, just by changing what we buy in stores.

Enjoyed it
Oviously it's aimed at the perfect amino brand but the information is good and it opens your eyes into the digestibility of other proteins which aren't very good
