I Am Pleased with the Quality
This is a quality hardcover with shiny pages. Some of the bird drawings are in black and white and many are in color. I am delighted to have this book for our trips to the BVI. This book is smaller than the average hard cover book so while it isn't light, it isn't too large, but may be a little larger than your standard North American guide. A little less than an inch thick.Yes, the revised edition is from 1989 and I am hoping that there will be a revised, revised edition soon.

Easy To Pack, Has The Birds
Bought this to take to the US Virgin Islands. Mucho bird books at home, but wanted local reference. It had everything I saw on St. Croix, so was perfect for what I needed. Love that it specifies which island(s) a bird might be on.

useful guide since every bird watcher/photographer in Puerto Rico
I was forced to buy this deep, clear, useful guide since every bird watcher/photographer in Puerto Rico, seemsonly interested in birds in the necks of the woods, sea shores, oceans and seas...Birds that average citizenswill never bother to see. I am interested in birds in urban contexts, where most people live in almost every continent.

Great Field Guide
I used this field guide while on a Sierra Club Service Trip to the US Virgin Islands and specifically the US Virgin Islands National Park on St. John. It contains very accurate and helpful descriptions and information on sighting and identifying birds in this region. The color plates were especially good. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Puerto Rico and/or the USVI whether or not they are a committed birder.

very useful
This guide is very useful. Descriptions are detailed and interesting, often with histories of the birds' settlement on the islands. Some of the plates with birds more often found on the North American continent or birds not easily mistakenly identified are in black and white, but most of the plates are in color. A helpful feature is that both English and Spanish common names for the birds are listed even though the book is in English.

Would like to see this book updated
A must for birders when preparing a vacation to Puerto Rico. Would like to see this book updated, though.

Superb
My husband and I are not really "Twitchers" by any stretch of the imagination but we do like looking and watching birds in the garden for example or on our holidays. I purchased this book because we hope to go to Puerto Rico on a cruise and thought it would be a handy book to have to take on our travels. There are about 400 species of birds there so it will be nice to be able to put a name to them if we should come across them.
