Excellent Reference. Buy it
This is a great reference book. I also purchased Bob Lang's "The Complete Kitchen Cabinetmaker" book and The New Yankee Workshop Kitchen Project DVD set. I found all 3 essential when building my kitchen cabinets. Here's why.The Paolini book provides a very good overview as well as a focus on joinery and the mechanics of cutting and assembling. Simple, basic techniques such as pocket hole and screwed butt joints are covered. These techniques may not necessarily be the "best" techniques but the title of the book does set the expectations; "Made Simple". It's a good introduction. The Paolini book is illustrated with color photos and the DVD video provides a lot of information that can't be shown as well in photos or words. I agree with the other reviewers, the DVD is just as good, if not better than the book. The Bob Lang book is more focused on the details of cabinetmaking. It does have a good overview as well, face frame vs. frameless, joinery options, material choices, etc. However, I found that the detailed dimensioned drawings the best part of the book. He also gives his opinion of what dimensions work well for him, such as face frame rail and stile widths and drawer dimensions. Color photos would be a big improvement over the black and white photos, but the photos are clear.I would recommend buying both books. While there is some overlap in information there is sufficient detail in each book to make the purchase worthwhile. The Norm Abrams DVD was great but a bit expensive at $100.

Good starting place
This book laid out the essentials of cabinet making in a fashion relatable for those with little or no knowledge of woodworking. If you are thinking of starting to learn woodworking in general or cabinet making in particular, this is a very helpful guide to use for planning equipment purchases. It also covers techniques for solid box building.

Excellent for beginner
Great step by step explanation of how to breakdown and estimate material cost. Excellent examples of cutting down full sheet goods to get the most out of each sheet when building cabinets. I basically bought this book and similar books about building cabinets in my quest to see if I could build my own. I am glad I bought my books before I actually went out and bought the material to build my own. I decided to build a dresser first using tips from this book. I love my dresser however I have decided that building an entire kitchen with home made cabinets wasn't something that I wanted to tackle on my own. I rated this as a four star based on the fact "I like the book". A 5 star rating is "I loved the book" which I personally did not. Great pointers and help tips, nice pictures excellent DVD providing Pro demonstration exactly what to do.

Excellent for learnig to make cabinets
I have been woodworking as a hobby for about 15 years now and have completed many projects. Cabinets have been among the projects that I have built.I liked this book because it was so back to the basics and all instructions were clear and concise. I am always open to different approaches and making things simple. My need was not for kitchen cabinets, but 2 freestanding cabinets and a computer desk with attached cabinetry for my office. The methods and instructions in this book were helpful. The video is an added bonus and allows you to see the book in motion. This isn’t for you if you are a master craftsman, as you would probably be writing books like this. But, if you are a beginner, or a woodworker that hasn’t built that many cabinets – I recommend this.

Good book if you are wanting to build garage cabinets or pocket hole boxes.
I bought this book based on some other reviews. It is definitely not a great book. I have others that are better. Most of the construction is with pocket hole screws. I like pocket hole screws, but he goes crazy. The box building is pretty straight forward. The only doors he talks about are shaker. Nothing else. Talks a little about drawers, both PH and DT.Overall, I give it a 3 star rating. The cabinets he designs are very basic, so if you are looking for more detailed work, try a different book. I am going to list this one back for sale as used on Amazon.

Excellent book/DVD for the weekend warriors out there
Outstanding book and DVD outlining all of the necessary steps in the design and construction of kitchen cabinets. I have most of the 4/5 and 5/5 star books Amazon offers on this topic, but for a weekend warrior this is the one to have. However, don't just take my word for it, go to Google Books and type in 'Gregory Paolini' and you'll be able to review a nice chunk (approximately 20 pages) of his book to see if it's for you.Oh, incidentally the disc that accompanies this book is surprisingly good, in fact I think it's well worth the 'price of admission' all by its lonesome. If by the off-chance there's something in Mr. Paolini's book that has you stumped just pop in the disc and have the author walk you through the steps in video format. If pictures are worth a 1000 words then I have absolutely no idea how many words this DVD is worth.

This book will get you up and running on your project
Information is well organized and easy to follow. The author provides very well thought out list of steps on how to build cabinets. Both euro and face frame cabinets. The book doesn’t go into design or explore lots of alternatives. If you want a deeper dive then Robert Lang’s book is a better option. I bought them both and refer to both equally. This is my first attempt at building kitchen cabinets and feel pretty confident thanks to the authors. I’ll let you know how it works out

Simple cabinetry
I purchased the book with the intention of learning more about kitchen cabinetry. I've built many types of furniture, but not really cabinetry. After seeing the book, and that it was written by Gregory (who makes furniture in the style I enjoy), I purchased the book. The book is very imformative and shows a very simple, yet sturdy way to construct kitchen cabinets. He also goes into detail on various kitchen components, alternate door styles, along with various hardwares. The DVD that accompanies the book is also very imformative, showing step by step procedures.
