Mount Rogers High Country Map [Grayson Highlands State Park] (National Geographic Trails Illustrated Map, 318)

The map was a bit heavy, but that's because its waterproof vinyl and not paper. The detail is very good and helped me out immensely on my backpacking trip. It was almost a bit too detailed (zoomed in). I started in Grayson Highlands state park and hiked 25 miles north on the Appalachian trail and then hiked 25 miles back and I almost hiked off the top of the map.

Very useful for planning a hiking trip that spanned multiple state parks. Just wish it had a little more detail

I have used this map for the Grayson Highlands / Mt. Rogers area. It is up to date and unlike a lot of the National Geographic Trail Maps actually goes down to a nice level of detail at Map Scale = 1:35,000. The trail mileage is also nice, and something the bigger scale maps often do not include. Like the other maps in this series it is sturdy and well made.

Used this to navigate the Grayson Highlands in beginning of Spring 2016. I saw many unmarked paths and camping spots while using the trails listed. It definitely has some missing locations, but nothing major. There is plenty of camping spots on the federal forest roads so don't be afraid to go off roading! Virginia is a great location for it.

I must have missed it in the description, but this is a very durable waterproof map. The detail is incredibly high, and the colors are extremely vivid. The notation is extremely detailed, but isn't overly packed with pointless information. I would feel confident heading out with a compass and this map. If I am ever going to park, I will check to see if the maps are available in this series before checking any others.

Love this map. It has everything you could want. Topo lines, trail markings, trial use indicators, open and forested areas indicated, notes, trail mileage markers, declination, etc...this is an excellent map. This area has so many trails that a map is essential. I met so many people on the trails that got so confused because they didn't have a map with them, some wasting so much time because they went the wrong way! They all were impressed with the quality of this map, both with the printed elements as well as they physical durability.

This is my second National Geographic map. They are very detailed and made of durable waterproof material.

I had to use this map in the rain for an entire day on a hike on the ATC. If I had printed a map out on my computer, I might still be wandering the mountains, as a home-printed map would have fallen apart in the rain. It's accurate and easy to use. I wont go into the mountains without one of these maps.
