I see a lot of misguided consumer reviews regarding tactical headgear. What a lot of people don't understand is that the #1 determining factor in how it performs is the material. Don't buy a Balaclava made out of NOMEX if you are looking for something to wear riding a motorcycle year-round somewhere with a cool and unpredictable climate. Just because it covers the majority of your face and neck doesn't mean its going to be warm. For instance the NOMEX balaclava that i'm reviewing works great in the SoCal area when i'm out shooting in the desert. Coupled with my Under Armour boonie hat it keeps my head and neck cool and shields me from shell casings, GSR, debris etc. I've purchased many warm weather balaclavas and this one is my favorite!

I use this thing for snowboarding and airsoft. its unobtrusive, lightweight and comfy. its been perfect for snowboarding. Its good for airsoft, however it has stretched a bit with the intense use I've put it through and no longer holds my teeth protector tight to my face. I definitely won't feel bad buying a second one though.

Bought this to wear under my flight helmet in cool weather. My job on a rescue helicopter as a hoist operator exposes me to the elements, this helps keep my face and neck warm and protected from wind burn that I have been experiencing lately during this long winter. Temperatures ideal for using this weight I found to be between 20 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit before it gets to warm to wear. Some have noted the Nomex is a bit itchy but after a wash or two I found the hood to be fairly comfortable. Would buy again if I ever needed to replace it.

I love Blackhawk products. Always high quality.But, be warned, this balaclava is extremely itchy and translucent. I did not expect the itchiness or my face to be seen through it.The itchiness is probably inherent to Nomex fabric and I cannot blame Blackhawk for this. And, the translucence probably comes from it being lightweight.If you are looking for a great tactical balaclava, and don't need the fire retardation of Nomex, try the UA HeatGear® Tactical Hood Headwear by Under Armour. I have one and am very satisfied with it.

Bought this to wear under my motorcycle helmet. Fit is perfect, thin enough that it doesnt create any issues with the fit of my helmet or the sound from my comms system yet it still keeps some of the wind off and dampens the road noise.Going to buy another one for my wife to wear with her gear.Some reviews said it was "itchy" all I can say is that mine is not itchy at all. I can wear it all day with no problems. Its not soft like a fleese but it certainly isnt uncomfortable.

First off I would like to say is that I used to wear Nomex hoods back in the 90’s as part of my bunker gear and to compare this with one with ones I used then , Well this thing is NOT safe for a Nomex hood , hell I can see through the damn thing as well it looks like it was a Quick job done , No Quality control was done and if it was then I can only say no more purchasing any items from Blackhawk , it’s a shame because I like their polo style shirts . I can not recommend this item for purchase as well to add I bought this back in 2022 and I finally opened the package and was shock to see Poor quality. I guess for the price I got what I ask for , As I said I can’t recommend .

Very comfortable material. Fits the head well… snug enough it doesn’t move around but not too tight and the eyehole opening is the perfect dimensions.
