The opening paragraph of this book shows us why it so important to reach out to the amazing power of this bookfor self core healing and transformation. It is a veritable treasure trove of blessings for everyday life....slowly....this book etches itself in the soul! This is one of the most profoundly touching books I have ever encountered."There is a quiet light that shines in every heart. It draws no attention to itself, though it is always secretly there. It is what illuminates our minds to see beauty, our desire to seek possibility, and our hearts to love life. Without this subtle quickening our days would be empty and wearisome, and no horizon would ever awaken our longing. Our passion for life is quietly sustained from somewhere in us that is welded to the energy and excitement of life. This shy inner light is what enables us to recognize and receive our very presence here as blessing. We enter the world as strangers who all at once become heirs to a harvest of memory, spirit, and dream that has long preceded us and will now enfold, nourish, and sustain us. The gift of the world is our first blessing."

Buyer Beware!
This is the American Edition of "Benedictus" by the same author with a different cover and title. As I didn't want two copies of the same book I returned to Amazon for a refund. No quibble from Customer Services so full marks to them!

Companionable book of wisdom
Superb personal testimony conveyed through insightful poems and deeply reflective prose passages. Death figures largely in these writings, but always positive, hopeful and forward-looking. Not surprising as O'Donohue died soon after publication. O'Donohue is no sentimentalist and these writings are full of a deep considered wisdom. An antidote to the crass materialism and shallow values prevalent in our society today.

A beautiful book.
I nearly missed out on this book having read a review saying it was the American or Canadian version of A Book of Blessings, the English version. It is not. The blessings and verses are completely different, and there are reflections within each chapter too. I really wanted the prose ‘now is the time to lie low.....’ which is contained within a poem only found in this book. It is a book full of thought, wisdom, reflections, and comfort. As a John O’Donoghue fan I am so glad I have not missed out on this book. Highly recommend it.

A wonderful, sacred book
Thank God for John O'Donohue. These are such beautifully crafted blessings/prayers - words to read aloud, to savour, to hold close in times of darkness. A beautiful book from a beautiful soul.

simple verses that will touch your soul
This was my first venture into the greatness of O'Donohue, and I hope it will not be my last. Superb prayers and poems fill this volume with great thoughts and blessings."for one who is exhausted" was the poem that grasped me so strongly and I love to read it again and again. I read the birthday verse to my wife on the eve of her 50th birthday and together we enjoyed those words spoken over one in exile. This book is full of warmth and good ethical thinking that will stimulate the good in you, making you think of better times, places and ways.A bargain and a welcome addition to my bookshelf.
