best hiking pants
i live in Trinidad and i hike twice weekly as a career. After 18 months of non stop hiking to various trails in Trinidad, Venezuela,Guyana, Jamaica, Dominica,St Vincent,St Lucia ,Maui and Grenada. This is the best hiking pants i have come across. It is ideal for hiking and adventure travel .This is what i like about the pants .1. drys quickly in wet conditions 2. light but tough nylon material does not rip easily 3. dirt washes off easily and looks brand new 4. the pants does not stain 5. loose and comfortable .6. comes in various lengths depending on one's height. 6 .does not wrinkle 7. takes up little space in bag.8. you can turn it into a short pants but most of all the zip is well made and converts back to long easily.8. stuff does not fall out from the pockets. 9 strong stitching ,despite constant climbing and jumping the crouch did not rip. This pants is money well spent .

Durable and functional
These very functional pants (all those pockets!) have endured very well. I have worn them on most days in spring, summer, and fall for eight months, with or without the zip-off legs. Despite their thin cloth, they are very good windbreaks so with some added insulation (long exercise tights) they have been good down to the 30F range, and with get a chance soon into the 20s. They breathe enough that I can't remember sweating when wearing the full legs in summer. They weren't supposed to be more than hiking pants, but they are comfortable enough that they became daily wear for office, chem lab, recreation, and electronics refurbing work. It is amazing that they haven't ripped, that all of the belt hooks are still attached, that the leg zippers still work smoothly, and that the pockets are intact after hundreds of wears and dozens of washes + dryer cycles.

Columbia Men's Convertible II Pant price point and quality exceed expectations
After my last pair of Columbia convertible pants blew out on a canoe trip to Bowron Park BC last summer (after 4 years of faithful service) I searched for a replacement pair - without success until I found the Columbia Men's Convertible II Pant. Other pants were too expensive, rated poorly by other reviewers, or the "shorts" were too long (knee length - whereas I like real shorts which come to mid-thigh). The Columbia Men's Convertible II Pants met my requirements: (1) not expensive, (2) mid-thigh "shorts", (3) easy dry and durable material. I recently spent a week in the Utah desert and a week on the Oregon coast where the Columbia Men's Convertible II Pants were my primary outdoor pants. They worked great - comfy, breathed well, dried fast, durable, and the sage color helped hide the fact that I was filthy within a few days of being in the Utah desert. The fit is accurate so don't fudge on your waist size - medium is really medium and the 32" spec is TRUE!

Great hiking\everyday pants
They are fairly comfortable summer hiking pants; made of cool, breathable and tear resistant fabric which dry quickly when wet. The fabric is very thin, with the Sage that isn't an issue, but don't wear anything except white, beige or other more neutral colors for underwear with the Fossil; anything dark or colored will show right through the Fossil. The thin fabric does help when packing them as they take very little room in a backpack or luggage. Converts to shorts quickly; I've converted these a few times and zippers are holding up fine. Probably worn them on 10 or 12 8-10 mile mountain hikes each and neither pair shows any real wear yet.

Good in hot or cold, city or jungle, slim looking.
Wore this pants on my trip to Asia. It kept me warm on the airplane and in the evening. When I hit the beach, I just took the legs off and cool again. Good fit and slim looking.Stars:* High quality fabrics, very light weight, legs stuff easy in pant pocket.* Special hard to find inseam is only 7.5" cools fast in hot weather, shows off my manly legs when in shorts (LOL).* Dries off fast when it gets wet.* Pockets have sieves for water drain and run out.* Zippers are high quality and will Zip back up easily.Strike: - Somewhat pricy but works well.

Cut a little small
I had purchased these pants from Dick's Sporting Goods before and they fit perfectly. Therefore, I felt confident in purchasing a few more pairs when I saw them on Amazon. The ones I received from Amazon were cut much smaller than ones from Dick's. So-- if you get them from Amazon, I would recommend going up a size if you are a little full in the hip and thigh regions. If they fit perfectly, I would have given them a 5. I have worn these pants in Ecuador and Costa Rica year-round and in Iceland during the winter with long johns underneath. They are the perfect travel pants.

Light and comfortable
I wore these every day for 4 days straight while camping in the Sierra Nevadas. They kept me warm at night (though socks and a cap had more to do with that), and were cool and comfortable during the day. When water hits these, it simply beads off. These pants feel almost weightless while they are worn. My normal jeans are Carhartts and Wranglers, so I'm quite used to heavy-weight cotton.I measure 38" at the waist, and this (X-Large/32-inch) was a perfect fit.As a side-note, I also have this in Large/32-inch. It's only slightly tighter, probably meant for a 35" or 36" waist.

Lightweight and quick drying
I wanted something that was going to be lightweight, quick to dry, and would keep me as cool as possible.I bought these for my trip to Ecuador, where we were going into the jungle, so I wanted something that would let me breathe as much as possible and could get wet without causing an issue for me. These were perfect for the job.Con: I am of average body type: 5'8, ~175 pounds (a little rounder in the belly than I'd like), but I thought that the legs were too long, even with hiking boots on. I would usually have to roll them up a little when going out with them, and especially if I was just wearing sneakers.
