The Marxist Theory of Alienation

i really enjoyed the book
thoughtful book on a subject that has fallen out of favor, possibly because of certain assumptions about human nature that many marxists criticize. not quite revolutionary marxism but not quite navel gazing marxism either. i really enjoyed the book, i think you will too.

Good Marxist writings don't go out of date
Ernest Mandel had an excellent understanding of Marxist economics, and that's primarily what's involved here. As a political thinker I mostly disagreed with him. Novack writes primarily on philosophy and history, and he was a strong political thinker. In any case, these two complement each other in this book and it is an excellent introduction to the topic. I think people interested in this are likely to also enjoy 'Socialism and Man in Cuba' by Ernesto Che Guevara, and two books by Leon Trotsky, 'Problems of Everyday Life' and 'Art and Revolution.'
