The Great Hanoi Rat Hunt: Empire, Disease, and Modernity in French Colonial Vietnam (Graphic History Series)

Self-indulgent and overly simplistic
This book is mostly about the author and what a "cool" teacher he is. Also the "history" parts are presented as such a simplistic good vs. evil narrative. Captures no nuance and everyone is quite literally a caricature. That does not make for an effective history.

Great resource for students
I intend to use this book in World History as it presents a genuine and important story about colonialism in a way students can understand. Also, the focus on French Vietnam is helpful, since most students only think of Vietnam in connection with the American presence there.

Interesting information
The book itself has a lot of information, however I feel it would've been better and more informative had it now been in a graphic novel form. There is so much information but spread all about and even hard to read or understand in some parts. Overall, a decent read but great source of information on the topic.

Love it
Excellent and creative. History is rarely delivered through the medium of graphic art which makes this book not only unique but appealing to a larger audience. I’ve also read Abina and the Angry Men from the same collection. Love this work!!!

Great Hanoi Rat Hunt
This book was quite interesting . It was very informative and easy to comprehend. Reading the graphic novel part was amazing because of the pictures they had so you could visualize exactly what they were talking about.

Great read!
I ordered this book for a class and ended up really enjoying it. The graphic novel section of the book makes it more of an interesting and easy read, it also engages its readers more.

Absolutely fantastic read
Everything about this book is captivating, especially if you’re interested in Vietnam even in the slightest. The premise of the book, and how the events are framed (based on the rat hunt) is engaging and original. Reading this really brings the colonial era to life.
