Surprisingly, you can improve on the box cutter and leave it to Pacific Handy Cutter to create it. With my sporadic work in retail and warehousing, I have become all too familiar with tools of the trade like Pacific Handy Cutters. Apart from making sure that you have your own to avoid losing time searching for one, having the correct might just be a significant factor as well. Sure, the S4L and S4R are for wonderful general-purpose cutters, but the S5 stands out as a must-have tool for loading and unloading larger pallets that come your way.The Pacific Handy Cutter S5 is a combination box and cling film cutter used mostly in receiving and distribution occupations. Continuing with the well-known design and operation of the S4 series, the S5 distinguishes itself with a unique recessed hook blade to cut the cling wrap commonly applied to pallets of boxes and fixtures as they are moved. While I initially thought it was a gimmick, the usefulness of the film cutting blade becomes apparent not just when finishing wrapping pallets that need to be sent out, but more so when unwrapping furniture and fixtures as they come in. While the most obvious solution would be to use the box cutting blade for everything, most of the time it becomes too dull to effortlessly cut through the cling wrap and in the case of unwrapping, there is also the challenge of removing cling wrap without damaging whatever is underneath it. Think about it - now not only to easily cut through the thickest wrap, but you can also do it with the with the added assurance of not accidentally slicing into something that you shouldn’t.There is one minor inconvenience though – opening the film cutter is not a one-handed operation. Granted there are no promotional materials saying so and its operation listed clearly on the wrapper packaging, it takes two hands to extend the blade. The way works – and not apparent in pictures presented in Amazon reviews – is that the box cutting button must be pressed and pushed all the way back to ease the blade out. That’s it – it’s not going to pop-open but rather slide out just enough so you can use your other hand to fully extend it and lock it in place.Despite the aforementioned, it is still a great tool to use. Granted I have some high tolerances to the imperfect world about me, I still think highly of it and perhaps once you begin to use it, you too will see beyond the imperfections to the convenience that you now hold in your hand as you cut, pack, and unpack on the job.

Makes it easier. I've used the s4 for 5.5 years 2 nights off for the entire year and am not missing it. Don't even notice it not being what I'm usually using.The splitter has saved me blade refill and time cutting rediculous packaged cases that are unsafe to the product and myself.By the way I an over night stocker, assistant grocery manager at a grocery store.

I bought two of these. I have not used one yet, but I slid the blade out and checked how well the hook blade release was, and so far so good.Exactly like the box knife we have at work. Mine was finally starting to just wear out. I have to flick the box knife now in order to get the hook blade out now, which is kinda fun, but it's not practical. I've dropped it over the 2 years(almost 3 now) I've had it. I will still keep my old one as my back up should my two new ones not last. I'm really hoping they will be as sturdy as my first.

If you are even looking at this tool, then you, like me, put a n too many hours at your job. This blade however will help you by making it easier and faster. First off, the s5,is bigger than the s4,longer and wider. It fits in my hand much better, and I don't drop it as much. The best feature of this blade is the hidden cutter in the back. By engaging the switch backwards, a small u blade pops out and makes for fast cutting of shrink wrap around sensitive product. I know don't recommend using it to the cut strapping, and neither does the company. It works, but has potential to be very dangerous. If you are wondering, it does fit in the s4 swivel holster, and I would assume, the leather version as well. Overall, between this and a good pair of kneepads, this has been one of my best investments for my job.

Really love this box cutter. It's the perfect size and shape. I recommend adding a little WD40 or some type of greaser to the mechanical parts of this if you use it often, it makes opening and closing the blade smoother.

It’s one unit of safety better than the S4. The plastic wrap splitter is sweet

I work for a grocery store. My first one was just like this before they switched to a different one and I loved it. had it for 2 1/2 years before the thumb slide piece broke. I was happy to be able to find another on amazon.

Le doy cuatro estrellas por que el gancho trasero es débil ya que es de plástico. Esto quiere decir que es fácil que ocurra un accidente. También la mañana del gancho posterior no es remplazable. Esto no bueno ya que con el uso pierde el filo..... imagina abrir entre 400 a 700 cajas por día sin poder cambiar la navaja. Piense lo. Gracias
