Wow just wow!
All throughout my teaching program professors and mentor teacher recommended this book to me and I now know why. Although it is geared towards kindergarten to 6th grade there are important things you can pull out for secondary students. I am starting my first year of teaching this fall and I feel confident that because of this book we will have a strong start to the school year and my first year of teaching won't just be horrific experience my mind tried to block out. 10/10 would recommend for any first year teacher to read or 2nd or 3rd year teacher for that matter. If you feel like the beginning of the year is a s*** show this book will help you! 🙏

Very informational
I bought this book for one of my classes, and it will be a book that I will pull out every year to ensure that I am not forgetting anything within the first few weeks of school. I bought it used, and it came as if it were brand new! Definitely recommend if you want to save a couple bucks!

Wonderful, informative, to-the-point, and well-organized!
As a teacher candidate beginning a yearlong student teaching program in just a week, this book has been extremely useful for getting a sense of what the first few weeks of school look like. The book is well-organized, separating by grade level so as to not give you superfluous information that is irrelevant to an individual. Each chapter covers a period of the beginning of the school year, divided into sections like schedules, morning meeting ideas, setting the tone for discipline, procedures, and teacher talk. It is packed with useful information without being too wordy! It is an easy and quick read, unlike other textbooks. Aside from well-preparing me for the first few weeks of school, it is just plain interesting to read about all of the small, seemingly-insignificant elements of the crucial start to the school year. RECOMMEND!

Great ideas, great resource
Great book for new teachers! It has detailed sample schedules and activity ideas for the first day, first week, second week, third week, and weeks 4-6 of school. I highly recommend this book. Read it before your interviews, before school starts, and even keep it handy at your desk.

A must have for teachers
This is my second copy of the book - I love the updates. I have been teaching for nearly 20 years, and love the Responsive Classroom philosophy. This book is great no matter how long you have been teaching. If your school/district is RC then it is a must have for sure.

Sturdy
Haven’t had time to read the book yet, but it’s been in my purse through the first 2 weeks of school and has held up through a lot
