Saltwater Flies: Over 700 of the Best

As a fly tier with many years of experience, I find this book helpful for getting ideas for new patterns, or recipes for patterns I don't tie enough to remember. However, if your looking for a "How To Tie Book" you'll want to start with something else. If you understand basic tying techniques, you should find this book helpful for recipes. Also, this book is kind of out dated, but not in a bad way. You'll find it easy to tweak the recipes to incorporate some of the newer materials available today. Or tie it as it was originally intended.

As previous people have said this is not for beginner fly triers but it doesn't take much experience to get the most out of the book.

This is a good book of flies with recipes. That's it.I wish it would have given a little bit on the general usage/history for the different types of flies so I would know what type of fish the fly was targeted too.

good reference but know what your doing....you will get no "how to's" from this book.....i use it to get the creative juices flow when at the vice....create something new....and for that i'm glad i got it

Lots of good patterns. Photos, material lists, and descriptions are good; however, previous tying experience definitely a plus when using this book.
