Useful device
This voice recorder is neat and compact design with a clear display, battery light indicator, and easy to transfer data to a computer. The voice recorder has 4GB memory and easy to navigate controls, folders, and buttons. Uses two AAA batteries which last quite a long time depending on frequency of use. The only downside is the inability of the device to remember where you left it when you switch it off and on again, which is a shame preventing top marks.

Pretty good!
The good: small, good battery life, picked up the speaker from around 3 metres away without the need to pump the volume up too loudly to listen. The could do better: managed to unlock the lock and record accidentally. Controls require a spot of patience to become comfortable with.Overall: best for personal notes, will do for recording a small meeting

Useful additon for nature rambles
I bought this Philips Voice Tracer to record sightings and notes of plants and birds when I go walking for my nature journal. Up until now I used an app on my phone but it drained the battery very quickly. I understand the battery life is very good but haven't used it for long enough to comment about that, except it's way better than my phone. This voice recorder is perfectly good for what I want and fits very neatly into a pocket. I have used it a couple of times now. It is easy to miss out the start of a recording, but I just need to adjust and wait a moment before speaking. Instructions do need to be looked at to set some features like voice activation and turning off the beep. There are other features such as indexing recordings which I have not yet looked at.The sound quality is fine - you can set it for close range which is what I use, and for longer distance. I recorded a Reed Warbler and was pleased with the result. It is not intended to be used for meetings or lectures.I use it for many short recordings - turning it on and off many times in the course of a couple of hours - and found it has a very audilble click at the end of each one which is a little irritating. I'm hoping that now I've discovered how to set up voice activation that issue will be solved.Overall, I'm very pleased with this - a useful addition to my nature walks.

Handling noise very audible through cheap plastic body.
It does the job as long as you dont hold it. The noise of holding the device is picked up by the mic as squeeks and finger touch "brushes". Use it with a handle or mounted to a camera body or something and you'll be ok, but if theyd only made the body more sturdy it would be more immediately usable for handheld interviews. Great clean sound but ultra cheap construction lets it down.

Very quick and easy to record voice and great price.
The sound quality is great and most important for me it is very very simple..press the red button and start talking thats it. However it is very complicated to delete files on the device so I would advice you to connect to PC and then it is very easy and quick to delete. It is a great price I don't really understand why people would pay 600 or 700 euros for a device to record themselves speaking ...why?

Broke within a few months
Hopeless bit of kit. I had a previous dictaphone for a decade - this one broke within a few months of having it, it just crashes and so you can't turn it on or off or record or playback, and it runs down the battery. Very annoying and a complete waste of money.

Well worth the money
Having initially purchased a cheaper, non branded recorder, after returning it I purchased this. On the scale of things it didn’t cost much more but is an order of magnitude better. Well worth the money

Initially I was quite pleased with it
I've had this for some time now. Initially I was quite pleased with it, but as time has gone on, I have become increasingly frustrated with it.Before proceeding, I should explain that I use DVRs to make notes while doing astronomy. So, my requirements are a bit unusual: I need a device a) WITHOUT a back-lit screen, b) easy to pause and continue recording by touch or with voice activation which works well c) reliable time-stamping of files d) reliable.Well,1) My first unit became faulty after a short time - replaced by supplier, but2) Voice activation is useless3) Initial part of recording is sometimes missing4) Internal clock resets (and presumably other settings) are lost when batteries are changed - this is necessary after each session as battery life is short. It's a pain to set up the clock again each time.5) Record pause/resume button isn't very east to find by touchSummary - I still use it, but I am definitely looking for a replacement.
