Wine Law! Who knew?
This is a fun read for wine lovers and especially wine lovers that love the law that goes with it. As the book continually says in one way or another, buying and selling wine is not the same as buying commodities like cheese and olive oil - there are layers of law, sometimes archaic that have to be sorted through. That being said, this is a book that falls between the layman and a lawyer. There are some terms ('easement' comes to mind first) that non-legal readers might necessarily know - but I think that the cases are broken down enough for the intelligent lay-reader.You're not reading actual cases - instead they are summaries of cases by the author in a light and easy way that helps you understand where our current wine (and alcohol) laws come from and where we're going.12 Mar - This is awesome so far -- but I have to admit that I feel super dorky reading case law that has nothing to do with any of my classes over spring break. :) C'est la vie. :)

Short, easy-to-read, informative and entertaining
Robertson has written a short, easy-to-read book that is both informative and entertaining. In each of twelve short chapters, she presents a different case demonstrating key legal issues arising in the context of the production and distribution of wine. But, even more satisfying, the chapters present the sometimes dramatic history of wine - like the Gallo family feud or labor unrest in the vineyards. As an attorney who represents clients at all stages of the distribution channel, I was particularly intrigued by her discussion of the often mandated three-tier system for distributing wine (and other alcoholic beverages). In short, this is a fun book that can be read in a single sitting. It's ideal for anyone who likes law and wants to learn more about the history and culture of wine, or anyone who likes wine and wants to learn more about the law.

Solid primer
Wonderful pithy reference incorporating and combining just the right amount of legal, historical, and oenological detail wo going overboard. Buy it as a quick read and study guide and in hardly any time youll feel really wine smart.

Fascinating, if somewhat repetitive
This is a fascinating book and presents an often overlooked aspect of wine--the business and family feuds and the laws which govern them. The author writes well, is concise, and brings the laws governing the growing of grapes, the distribution of wine and other related matters to life. Certain parts of the book (e.g., the three tier distribution system) seem repetitive, but that is a small fault.
