Does actually work on non-windows machines.

This does work on non-windows.... for the person who say it didn't.you just communicate via uart.you don't have to use their software either. just make your own using the range telemetry.I have this working on an r-pi w/ nerves.

Easy to use!

This is a terrific product. The lidar device itself is small and fairly quiet. The real benefit is the ROS2 support. The Slamtec company makes it so easy to integrate into ROS, in that once you colcon build the project, you just launch it and lidar data starts streaming to a ROS pub endpoint.

Fool me once...

I've bought two of these, first one was DOA, I spent weeks troublehsooting my code, trying different packages and banging my head on the table, finally I set up RoboStudio on a Windows machine and saw that my LiDAR was non-functional, by then it was out of the return window. I purchased another one, tested with RoboStudio first and it worked perfectly. After being discouraged by the wasted weeks from the first dead LiDAR, my project sat for months. Now I'm motivated again, got my system working and now when querying data from the LiDAR the resolution was terrible, after a couple days, it stopped giving any data. Back to RoboStudio and it would intermittently provide data for a few minutes then nothing. Another dead LiDAR. Unfortunatley I've spent months designing and building my platform for my compute package including the lidar, changing to something will require restructuring all of that. I'm very disappointed in the device.

Works very very well but only on windows

I loaded up the windows demo and it worked like a charm, but I couldn’t find any Linux drivers for the device and since all of my robots run Linux I ended up returning it

Great LIDAR dev kit with simple yet solid performance

I purchased this to learn and experiment with 3D imaging. Using the Slamtec SDK and basic OpenGL, I was able to build a real-time room measuring and display system on my Mac (macOS). The device is very quiet and comes with pegs so that you can place it on a table, bench or mount it to a robot. Sadly, the Slamtec tools (Robostudio) are only for Windows, but the SDK works for macOS, Linux and RPi. I have tested on macOS. You can search Github for "OpenGL-LIDAR-Display" for more information. BONUS: The kit also includes a set of wires to make it easier to use with the GPIO headers on a Raspberry Pi. You can buy them separate for $10 so that was a nice surprise.
