Too easy!
I've been playing for about 10 years now... mostly electric...metal, blues, hard rock, etc. Jamming to power chords and playing blues rhythm riffs had become easy and I wanted to learn how to use the whole neck. I knew a blues scale in the key of Em so I always slid that chord shape up and down the neck to where it fit the key I was playing in, but the only other place I could use that fingering pattern was if I brought it up an octave. My lead work was obviously in a rutt. I've always heard the guitar Greats preach about learning the pentatonic scale, but I was kind of intimidated about learning it. I'm kicking myself now for not persuing it years ago.Today I threw in the first DVD. The patterns were so easy to learn. After mastering them all, covering the whole neck, which took about an hour, I easily learned how to shift the pattern positions to work with different keys.Needless to say, I threw in a favorite CD, figured out the key they played in and was shocked at how much I'd learned. It was like new phrases and different string bends that I didn't even know existed just became unlocked.I didn't sound like SRV, but I can tell my playing style has already changed.Looking forward to viewing the rest of Disc 1 as well Disc 2.6 Stars!!!

Pentatonic Scale
Nothing ambiguous about Desi Serna's teaching method. I really appreciate how he is to the point, and clear in his instructions. It is true that some DVD instructors are not very thorough about the material that they are covering. Some do seem to like to show-boat and then just give some general hints, and move on. It really irks me when you watch this type of instruction, and you have the person say, " You should also find a good guitar teacher in your area and take some lessons." Don't get me wrong, I think that taking guitar lessons are fantastic, I'm not trying to say that they aren't. My point is that if you are trying to teach yourself, you would think that they would have that in mind when making these videos, otherwise you would go out and find a teacher, right. Anyway this DVD is made for someone trying to learn on her or his own. This DVD has helped me progress immensely. When I get the material in this video down pat, I plan on continuing with the series. Great instruction!!!

Excellent Primer on Major and Minor Scales
I'm an intermediate player who's been playing acoustic for almost 14 years. I only recently became interested in learning about theory, scales, and taking my playing to the next level (translation: I was growing tired of playing only chords every time I picked up my two guitars!).Desi Serna's DVD is great, because in it he takes you through all the detailed formations of both the minor and major scale patterns - and then provides instantly usable applications. His teaching methodology is clear, succinct, detailed, and very easy to follow. You'll want to pick your guitar up and play right away after viewing this video. As far as I'm concerned, practice is the only thing required after watching this DVD several times over. Give it a few tries - I did and I'm very, very happy that I took the time to do so. Highly recommended!

Great intro to soloing on guitar
If you're looking for a great introduction to minor & Major pentatonic scales, look no further. This dvd will teach you the five patterns and how to tie them together. Various techniques are discussed to spice up the scale as well. I also love the musical examples he plays from popular songs. Teaching this way really shows you what's possible with this simple scale. As I side note, Desi's customer service is terrific. I received a dvd that wouldn't play and he replaced it in a flash. Customer service like that is very important to me and he came through. I own all of Desi's dvds and they're al great, but I found this and the one on Chord Progressions to be the most helpful. Desi really knows his stuff, and you can't go wrong with any of his products.

Good resource
This DVD has been and is a good one for those trying to advance their knowledge base of basic to intermediate guitar techniques . Getting lessons is great but until you can get them here you have a resource to advance your skills that you can work thru at your own pace .Teamed with a couple other resources along with the initiative to learn, this DVD will get you to where you can progress to a higher skill level .

Amazing
This DVD teaches you how to play some beautiful riffs and licks using the pentatonic scale. Learning this scale and all five positions of it couldn't have been easier. Now I'm not Slash and never will be Tom Keifer(Cinderella frontman, not the gospel singer) but I do have faith that with this DVD I can still learn to make some great music. Five stars all the way

Pentatonic Scale made easy
Another Great job by Desi Serna. Learnig the Pentatonic Scale couldn't have been easier. I can't believe it's actually me playing when I jam over chord progressions. My wife and kids can't believe it either. (lol) This is a lot of fun... The extra stuff on the DVD's are great as well. This is a must have if your a "strummer" and want to learn awesome leads, riffs and fills in no time. And, it will all make sense to you. You will know exactly what you are playing and why. It's just great. Thanks Desi!!
