The Doable Off-Grid Homestead: Cultivating a Simple Life by Hand . . . on a Budget

If we could give this book 100 stars we would. It’s basically the hard earned knowledge of knowledgeable homesteaders. There is priceless wisdom and techniques in this book. Things you would never think of or know( and my husband and I are fairly knowledgeable in this area).I can’t recommend it enough. My husband has not put it down since we got it and keeps saying how impressed he is with it...If you are a novice or super experienced you can learn from this book. Great pictures and detailed explainations of how and why to make each project. You may not need another book on this subject at all! If your looking for a homesteading book this is the one you should buy.

Good info if you are brand new and want to learn from three years of their mistakes, (valuable!) but probably not so helpful for the already homesteading for years.

After following the authors blog (Nourishing Days) for several years, I was excited to see they were publishing this book. This is the first book I’ve ever pre-ordered and boy, was I not disappointed!This book is PACKED with projects and ideas for everyone from beginners to seasoned homesteaders. And the authors not only detail exactly how to build each project, they also estimate the time and cost associated with each build. From building a basic solar system without batteries, making a rooting hormone, gravity-fed household water system and even how to can a whole chicken. Every page I turned I marveled at what was shown next.This is a FANTASTIC read from beginning to end. If you are considering starting a Homestead, small farm or even going off-grid, then this book would be a valuable addition to your how-to library.And I can’t wait to start building these projects.

Not a lot of drawn out fluff, they get right to the point. Great information, though I'm not sure I'll use a lot of it.

I am deeply considering moving off-grid and this book has questions that I should be considering that I have not seen others mention before-in regards to looking for land. I love the pictures that are included as well. It’s all very informative and well put together. Not very far into the book but I really love it so far.

Not much in coinciding pictures, bunch of read, redundant reading.

It's just ok. A lot of pictures, but not the right pictures. The projects explained are not long-term sustainable and come across as half-assed, southern engineered. And the projects lack pictures to show what's being explained. Easy, enjoyable read, but don't expect to get a "bible" for homesteading. Admittedly the authors tell you that upfront.

Absolutely love this book!! What a wealth of info that I didn’t even know I needed. You break it down so well that I think we may actually be able to do some off grid projects!
