This was exactly as pictured. The paint on the grid starts to rub off if you handle it too much. My 5 year old does not have the attention span, so we have to set it aside for now. Seems like there may not be enough yarn-I'll to be sure not to waste.

As a great lover of needlework of all kinds, I had high hopes of my "crafty" 7 year old granddaughter loving needlepoint too. I had a hard time finding kits that were small enough projects to complete in a timely manner for a young child not to loose interest. The mess size is large enough for her to feel like she's making progress also. For those who have complained about the color coming off the pattern, just color over the project with Jiffy perm enact markers before you start the project. Quick and easy solution--like coloring in a kid's coloring book , and takes only a couple of minutes. I was so glad to find these kits, that this "problem" was definitely NOT a problem for me!!

This kit truly defines "Okay." The yarn is so very cheap that it knots and comes apart and pills up horribly. The picture printed on the back of the mesh comes off with handling. The younger the child, the more "handling" and the quicker the picture comes off and you have to rely on counting, using the pattern. My developmentally delayed 12 year old handled it pretty well, needing a little help with this and that and finishing with dedicated work time each day for a week. (5 days) My 10 year old has made slow but steady progress. She is probably half way done with hers now. My 7 year old has struggled with it. (I think half the struggle is boredom, lol. She doesn't seem to enjoy the process.) I am helping her a LOT with hers but having her do enough of it that when it is done, she will feel like she accomplished something. If I choose to order these again, I will probably try to coat the back in clear nail polish to help hold the paint on longer. I might also purchase higher quality yarn locally for the larger parts in one color - like the background and main animal color.

My daughter was 6 when she got this. The kit is well made and easy to understand; the size and scale mean that it is a confidence inspiring project because it isn't too daunting to complete. It requires a little time and patience, but you can see progress quickly.My daughter wasn't a total newbie to stitching of this kind, she had played with unprinted plastic canvas, so she knew something about the mechanics of needlepoint. This was her first project that had a pattern and wasn't just free form, and she was able to complete it in a few sessions.

This is a great value! The kit includes everything you'll need, including needle. I think the package says it's for ages 6 and up, but my 3-year-old can do a few stitches at a time and is very proud of herself for every stitch that she can do on her own. It's great for eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. My only complaint is that the directions aren't clear enough.

I bought two kits and we did need to rob the yarn out of the second kid to complete the blue area on the cats background. Overall it has been a really fun project. My seven-year-old has enjoyed it.

Very cute, my kids are really enjoying learning to sew with these. This particular brand, however, looses the color on the plastic. This is a problem because you need the color to know where to put your stitches. It rubs off over time making it slightly more difficult to figure out where to put what color. But there are other things I like better than other kits. Like the actual metal needle. Others only come with plastic needles. And the holes on this kit are smaller which, in my opinion, makes the finished product look better.

Great kit! My daughter tried this as her first needlepoint project. She loved it and finished it in about a week. Very cute! There was lots of yarn included to finish it. The stiff plastic webbing made it easy to handle, and the pattern (printed on both sides) didn’t flake off at all. She can’t wait to do another project!

My six year old niece loved this so much her 8 year old sister secretly whispered to me that she would like one too ! ♥ Of course this proud aunt obliged !
