Nice Find
Six or seven years ago, while preparing a short story course, I single out "The Bridegroom" almost a random. It turned out not only to be a wonderful story but also fit nicely into the design of the whole course. Ha Jin writes in a contemporary, sophisticated and highly accessible idiom and style, welcoming the student and the general reader.

Great stories
Ha Jin did it again. His short stories are fascinating to read as well as educational in the sense that you learn about Chinese istory and culture as you are enjoying his stories. This one of my favorite Ha Jin books to date. Very enjoyable reading.

An Insight to a Very Different Culture
It is a bit of an insight to the Chinese culture and how, at both the same time, different and alike we humans are. I always enjoy anything by Ha Jin.

Captivating
This is a great collection of short stories. Ha Jin really grabs your attention with the easy flowing narrative and unique circumstances that each story illustrates beautifully. Each story tackles a different issue, such as pre-marital sex, homosexuality, police corruption, views on western culture and many more. I enjoyed reading every single one of them and found myself wishing that every story was written as a whole novel as the author leaves the reader craving to know what happens next.
