The author (Amy Jill Levine) is the only person of the Jewish faith who is actively teaching New Testament studies.Vanderbilt) She uses her education and background to offer a different interpretation on the Christmas stories in Matthew nd Luke. Even tough she teaches at a seminary, she keeps the language simple, yet informative. At four chapters, it is a short read.

Don’t let the subtitle fool you. This is not an elementary school study of the Christmas stories found in Matthew and Luke. Rather, this book shows that if you have only read and heard the Christmas story that is normally given in mainline churches, you are only a beginner and this book is for you to get a deeper understanding of the meanings that Matthew and Luke are trying to convey thru their narratives.

Excellent! A unique and insightful look at the Christmas story that challenges you to look beyond what you think you know or believe.

The author of this book is, as she herself says, an unorthodox Orthodox Jew. What makes this book interesting is the way she ties all of the Old Testament prophesies directly to Jesus. Worth the read.

A very different, but interesting and informative, look at the Christmas story. This study is provides a very adult approach to the season of Advent. The author’s knowledge of the testaments is impressive.

We used this book at church during Advent. The author is very passionate about the Nee Testament. The videos provided enough information for a good discussion without reading the book and made the book come to life

Useful perspective on Advent by serious scholar who writes at the level of a lay reader. Note that this edition of her work is in a very small, light font and so difficult for some to read.

Arrived when expected and is what I searched for.

Anything by Professor Levine is important for Christians to absorb.
