Grammar Girl Presents the Ultimate Writing Guide for Students (Quick & Dirty Tips)

I teach college students English Composition. I feel like Grammar Girl (Mignon Fogarty) took my curriculum and converted it to a book. This writing guide for students is perfect. It's written in a very logical order and in a style that students should find easy to follow. As an instructor, I love her wit and obvious enthusiasm for grammar. I know most students are not excited to read about English and its grammatical rules, but this book makes those rules fun and gives hints on how to remember them. Although the title says this book is "for students," I think anyone who communicates in written form should own it. That means you.

My daughter’s prof required this book, but it’s a keeper for her personal library. She loves the way it’s organized. It’s very helpful in more than one class!

I learned a lot from this book!

I thought I'd brush up on my language skills and checked out some grammar books - I am sure each one was a great and accurate resource, but this is the one I decided to buy - because it is easy to read and to understand. The terminology is clearly explained - and I find it easy to pick up and put down in stages.

English speaking moms and dads are being tortured everywhere trying to explain to their school aged children all the idiosyncrasies of English grammar. For me it usually ended with a line similar to "I know it doesn't make sense, but it is what it is!". I don't think I ever learned the "why", if I did it was long forgotten.Thank goodness for Grammar Girl!For now I will look up the info when they ask about adverbs, adjectives, subjective pronouns, etc., but I'm hoping that they will use it as a reference themselves as they get into the upper grades.

Great book for someone trying to learn grammar rules and the differences between similar words and phrases. I read this for a grammar class and it really helped me solidify a lot of the rules for myself. I now refer back to it often when I’m editing other people’s work.

All of the Grammar Girl books are excellent. They are entertaining as well as easy to understand. I refer to them frequently.

Got it for school, Its okay

This book is ideal if you're a beginner and want to write/speak correctly. It is simple compared to "Wren and Martin" which requires a little prior knowledge of English.

This book is full of valuable grammar information, and if you read it like a novel (starting on page one and going forward) you will learn from the writer. The problem is looking up something after is not so easy; the indexing makes it hard to find a specific definition or rule. The overall rating of our homeschool students (grades 7 - 9) and teachers is a 3 star due to the overly confusing index.

This book is a must for everyone.
