Very Colorful
Excellent !!!I bought this as a complementary to the two other popular kid books of the national geographic series (first big book of animals and first big book of dinosaurs) Like the other two that is perfect to widen the nature knowledge and imagination of my kid. Pages are full of colorful photos of a wide variety of sea organisms. The cover might be misleading for those who expect an assortment of fish types. This book offers an excellent balance of fish, reptile, mammals, birds and invertebrates that either live in the ocean or on the shore. Not only that, it also categorizes them according to the ocean they live in. All oceans including the arctic ones are covered. This offers your kid a better understanding of the different ecosystems. The fascinating photos are accompanied with a paragraph or two long text that gives some useful information. Parents, do not underestimate those texts as simple info for kids. As a person that is working in biological sciences, I can not believe how much I learnt from them.At the end it has an index and some useful guidance suggestions on how parents can help their kids get the most out of the book.

Best Books for learning toddlers
My 3 year old son is obsessed with all the books in this series. They are perfect for learning toddlers. There is just enough content on each page with educational pictures. It is his go-to book every night before bed and he has learned sooo much from them.

Great book!
I got this as a gift for my five year old nephew for his birthday. He loves animals and science! I have gotten him two other books like this on different topics but lately he’s been really into ocean creatures so I thought this would be perfect. He loves it! After opening presents at his party, this was his first go to despite having tons of new toys to play with. The book is very well put together with a hard cover which will hold up to kids. The information in the book is great and definitely written for kids to understand and learn from.

Inspires my son to recognize similarities and think critically!
My son's only complaint is that there are no swordfish in this book. He is 5, loves everything ocean-related, and knows much more than I do about ocean life. This book is perfect for him! I especially like the critical thinking questions after each animal. I don't have the book in front of me, but I think it's the sponge section that defines "sessile" and then asks if you can think of any other animals that are sessile (coral and anemones are earlier in the book). It inspired him to start quizzing ME! For instance, when it mentioned seals have a layer of blubber, he asked me if I could think of another animal earlier in the book that had blubber (orcas). It isn't even one of the printed questions. He's excited about learning things from this book, and anything that inspires learning in him is fantastic to me!

Great Book...even for toddlers!
My granddaughter is 16 months old. She loves this book and the Dianasor book! She even pays attention when I read it to her. Both are beautiful and have nice pages that are just thick enough so she doesn't tear them. She knows to be gentle with her new big girl books, and she loves them. She brings them over for me and her grandpa to read to her every time she visits...which, luckily for us, is often!

Perfect for a 4 year old
Just finished reading this book with my 4-year old kid. We both loved it! A new animal is featured every page or two, and it's a greatest hits collection: dolphins, sharks, whales, otters, penguins, sea turtles. There were also pages featuring coral, sponges, plankton, and jellyfish. What REALLY took the book to the next level was the interconnectedness - when the book mentioned that sea turtles eat jellyfish, I could flip over to the jellyfish page. Also, when the spotted dolphins were introduced, it gave a nod back to the orcas (a type of dolphin), and then on the next page showed several more types of dolphins. Of course the clown fish + anemone symbiosis featured on the cover was nice, as was the sea ray + remora.Note: There is a world map at the back of the book - it might be nice to jump there at the beginning of each chapter to show where in the world that particular ocean is.Also: We have only done one read through so far, but have had no issues with the binding.
