Pie is not square
I can't believe that this terrific little art book is still around.I am not a terribly crafty person and this seemed to fit the bill when I purchased my first copy years ago.Who can't draw a circle? If you can trace around a cup or can,you can draw a circle.I like the imaginative way art could be created from something so simple.I used this book when my children were small and purchased a copy for my daughter in law.I expect to see birthday cards coming my way with Picture Pie flowers in the future.I will treasure them. This is a great rainy day solution if you have restless children around.I remember that I saved colored paper from envelopes and even old birthday cardsto create a good variety of colored paper to have on hand. Its a great way to recycle paper and provide entertainment for children.I have used this book to decorate bulletin boards for our church school and in various art projects over the years. As a mother,I wished I had thought to use this book to address my daughter's math anxiety over fractions. As a grandmother,I feel better having one more tool in my bag of tricks if this arises in my grandchildren.

Misleading description of condition
I understand perception varies person to person, however, this interpretation of gently used is a stretch. The book had clearly had some water damage. It was dry, but very hard to seperate pages and keep book open.

Buy some paper punches
Buy some paper punches. Cut out circles in every color and every pattern imaginable. Then provide glue sticks and let the fun begin. This author goes from this book where you create art with cut out shapes shapes to other books that teach how to draw full on scenes using this shape method. I love how easy the progression his books are into making one's own drawn artwork.

Great for Teaching Fractions!
A great book to use if you need a new and more creative way to teach fractions in the classroom. I used the simpler patterns with my first grade students and went very slowly, step by step creating the images with them. They had a blast! There are MANY complex designs/patterns to work with, which are better geared towards older students, such as 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Overall though, my first grade class had a great time adding art to math using the creations of Ed Emberley. I'm looking forward to checking out some of his other books!

Classroom Use
I used this book with my 2nd grade class for the first time today. I demonstrated how to fold the circles to get the different shapes and they realized right away that they were fractions. Then I gave them a choice of a simple pattern to follow to make the different birds and they just blew me away with their creativity. Even my students who struggle with fine motor skills and just a basic lack of imagination did a great job. I even had a 3D picture from my most unorganized student. I can't draw at all, but plan to get several more books this summer and practice for next school year. I will definitely be using this and other Ed Emberley books in my classroon from now on.

Love this Book!!!
All I can say is you can't go wrong with Ed Emberley art books. I am an art teacher and I love using the examples in here to show students that everything is made up of basic geometric shapes (square, triangle, and circle.) These exercises/examples are great for having people of all levels of art to really break down objects into basic geometric shapes. Also if you are into scrapbooking the exercises in here are great for you to create some wonderful paper crafts. The examples are given in easy to follow step by step picture instructions. There is a lot of examples to follow that are easy and fun to do :0)

Hours of art & math
I use Picture Pie in my art lesson that combines art and math.. Students in 1st grade all the way up to adults love this book and enjoy making "fraction pictures" for hours. Ed Emberley is a treasure.

Wish it came with stencils
This a great book, but the setup takes forever! Having to find and trace various-sized circles and then cut them out for my kids takes far too long. As a result, we don't use this book, as often as I would like. It would be a bit easier if the last page included some different-sized circle, semi-circle, etc. stencils that the kids could at least trace, along with quick reference folding instructions, to show them how the different shapes can be formed.

Loads of ideas easy to copy
Loads of ideas easy to copy. Niece spends all afternoon on a rainy day creating masterpieces with this book. Great all you need is fingers and thumbs, a pen and some ink pads and loads of paper.

Estupendo
