WARNING - BLACK MOLD AND GUNK BUILDUP FOUND IN LID!!!! Read this before buying please!
I sent the following directly to Ello Customer Support after finding black mold and gunk embedded in the impossible to remove, sealed portion of the lid:I have had your turquoise capped Ello Elsie BPA-Free Glass Water Bottle, 22 oz for a few months now. I liked how it kept my water cold and was easy to transport without leaking. I washed it daily with dish soap and put clean, filtered water in it exclusively. I have never heated it, frozen it, or put any hot or very cold liquids inside. I use it for water only, basically everything within your Use & Care Instructions I located on your website and on Amazon.I started noticing recently that it had a bad taste to the water, like I was drinking tap water, and that it also had somewhat of a smell when I opened the cap. Today I decided to clean it more thoroughly than usual so I took a wet paper towel and ran it along the inside of the lid, pushing hard, and what I found absolutely disgusted me.I thought at first maybe there was some dirt or grime that built up in the cap and somehow I missed it when I did my daily wash. So, I took a few q-tips and pushed it in between where the soft plastic meets the hard, white plastic lid...and that's when I realized that all along the top inside of the lid was an entire layer of black mold and grime.I tried my hardest to remove it and I could not. See the attached pictures. I just took those. There was much more black moldy gunk that came out before I thought to take pictures. I cleaned it to the best of my ability and then put water in it, and I noticed black particles swimming around in the water. I will not be using this product anymore and will be demanding a refund from the Marshalls store that I purchased it from.People need to know about this flawed-product design. The lid CANNOT BE REMOVED TO BE PROPERLY CLEANED. I tried very hard to pop out the soft plastic colored section and it only came out part way, exposing more mold and gunk.YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS RIGHT, PEOPLE'S HEALTH IS AT RISK. You have a duty to warn your current customers of the risks that this product poses. It clearly builds up bacteria and dirt that buries itself in the lid, and since it is a moist environment, the bacteria breeds and becomes mold.

So far so good
Had this for a couple days now. So far so good. Cap seals strong. Can't imagine it spilling in my bag unless it is worn out. It's made of rubber and a small piece of plastic inside. Dunno if that's BPA free. I know they advertise that the glass is but nothing said about the cap.Looks cool and pour isn't too bad. I'm still able to drink by waterfalling the water into my mouth without issues. I don't like lipping the glass because = more bacteria. Not too into cleaning my water bottle too much.Any ways that's my review so far. I'll update it some more if something else comes up.hope this helpsGod bless!

Great to have glass bottle; don't like rubbery material that holds lid to bottle. Cut it off.
I love that this bottle is made of glass. It feels good to hold it keeps the beverage really cold, and it feels good to sip from it. What I really don't like is that the lid is held on by this rubbery material. You inevitably place your lip on it because the lid is held on right below the rim. It is also pretty gross that when you shake the bottle the lid is hanging off and what's left on it spills as you drink. That is especially gross if you have a smoothy or any milk product in the bottle (such as sugar free carnation instant breakfast.) See attached photo. So I have taken the rubbery material off with an exact knife, and just left what surrounds the lid so there is still an air-tight seal. This is much better. The reduced price on Amazon is really great, so I've ordered several more.

These Are Popular in My Home...
I have used these Ello glass bottles for years, and I quietly enjoyed having them all to myself. That is until...I recently introduced my brother to juicing and stored his juice in one of my bottles. He both became a super fan of fresh juice - and - nabbed BOTH of my Ello bottles! He sweetly noted that "his" bottles received plenty of compliments when he carried juice to work, church, etc.I acted fast and quickly bought him two bottles to take my favorite purple and coral colors back. Peace is restored and now these bottles have become a popular, must have in our homes. I particularly enjoy them for making iced coffee to have in my mornings too. Finally, these are easy to clean - especially if you invest in a Dr. Brown's or Munchkin baby bottle brush (yup, you read that right).

Odor Galore
I had previously owned a product similar to this, yet when I reordered it for college I was deeply displeased with the bottle. Before my first sip, I noticed a foul smell. I rinsed it several times and then tried drinking from it, and the odor had permeated the water. The chemically scent led me to push the bottle to the side of my table, and I haven't touched it since. Any recommendations for a refillable water bottle that doesn't smell rancid?

Meh, good for about a year's use.
I bought this bottle about 14 months ago and I noticed that it has started leaking. I have been trying to find & buy a replacement silicone caps, but have not been able to find one (or two since I have two bottles). So they are good for about a year and then the silicone cap most likely stretches from the use and then it begins to leak.

Couldn't be more pleased
I love these water bottles. Bought two over five months ago. I use one each day and wash the other in the top rack of the dishwasher. They still seal really tight. I carry them by the loop all the time. No problems with smell or mold as reported by some, but I do live in a dry climate. Couldn't be more pleased. Note that they are heavy. Maybe not good for all day in a backpack. I use mine in the car and to take into classes and meetings. As I said above it's easy to carry by putting one finger through the loop between the bottle and the lid.

Nice glass bottle
The lid had a nasty smell/taste at first; it took about a week of dishwasher and hand washing to get rid of it. Now I'm pretty happy with it. I was always looking for a nice all-glass water bottle and now I have one!

Not portable!
I bought this glass bottle with the hope of breaking myself of the plastic water bottle habit, but this product is not the answer for me. When full, it is very heavy. I'm not a large woman, and I could not possibly carry this around in my bag. Furthermore, I'm obliged to use two hands to pry open the lid, and since the mouth of the bottle is wide, it's difficult to drink without spilling it on oneself. Don't even try it in a moving vehicle! Maybe it could be used to store things in the fridge or as a mini carafe on a desk, but as a portable water bottle, it's not useful.

hello glass water bottle goodbye toxic plastic
I love it- As everyone in the world is switching to use less plastic that's toxic for the environment and eventually damaging all life on this planet,--now switching to tuse reusable glass and silicone type water bottle is really the way to go. it's also great for making cold brew tea or homemade flavoured water like just adding cucumber or citrus. The lid is great and does not leak at all even when you turn it completely on its side up side down our family has been very pleased with the seal ability of the mostly silicone lid. it's east to clean with a simple dollar store or Walmart bottle brush and a bit of warm water and dish soap for the bottle and lid... which will Also make it last longer than if you put it in the dishwasher (which all use high temperatures). dishwashers can be used but then will eventually make the Glass cloudy and shorten the life of the silicone stopper.Tip: if your worried about breakage - just get a silicone sleeve option to aid a bit of shock absorption ..or just learn to be careful with your water bottle.

Happy with this purchase
I bought two of these, one for home and one for work, because I want to increase my water intake. So far I’m really happy! They are modern and simple looking, the cap works well. When the cap is on it’s easy to hook your finger into it and carry it around the office while carrying other things. This meets my needs.

Was hoping to use it to store carbonated water
The bottle is sturdy and well made but unfortunately it doesn’t work to store carbonated water from my Soda Stream. The pressure from the carbonated water makes the lid pop off. Aside from that, it’s a great bottle for storing plain water. I love the fact that it’s glass instead of plastic.
