Can the backlight be turned on continuous?

No that I can see. This is something I do not like. Although I have not used it with a a/c adaptor, and I wonder if the backlight would stay lit if the unit was plugged it.

I have an older model tama tamrw105 rhythm watch 2. will the power supply i have with it work for rw200 ?

I'm not sure but I am including a separate power supply with the one I'm selling.

What kind of battery does it take? Does it go through batteries quickly, or does battery replacement rarely need to happen?

9V battery. I use mine at least 10 hours a day teaching students, and my own practicing. I was averaging 2 days (about 20 hours) per battery. I went ahead and ordered the power supply so I didn't have to take out a second mortgage in my house to buy batteries. If you only use it a few hours a week, a battery will be fine.
