Truly interesting story, very comprehensible
This is one of my favorite CI novels right now! It is very comprehensible, and has a unique, character driven story that high school students can relate to (moving, having a crush on her friend's brother). I love that it takes place in Marseille, so it discusses culture in a very natural way that doesn't seem forced, and also has cultural notes at the end (with pictures!) so students can learn more. The characters are diverse and unique, and ends in a way that is satisfying but not predictable. It can be read on its own, or as the first book in a series ("Khadra" is the second book, which is just as enjoyable, if not more so!)The glossary at the end is well organized and easy for kids to use - this book is such a gem!

What an authentic and refreshing story
This story caught my interest at different levels; its authentic language written by a native speaker, its setting in Marseille, port city and crossroads for immigration which brings an interesting cultural point, its diverse characters who are teenagers and very relatable to my teen students. The glossary has not only vocabulary but also pictures and cultural points. As a teacher, I have to compliment Cecile Laine for the support she brought as well through her blog as she had wonderful links to short videos to bring this story even more alive. Through this story, my students understood more than just vocabulary, it was a true voyage to Marseille

Cultural and Comprehensible- More great work from Cécile Lainé
As a native speaker and language teacher, Cécile Lainé brings an all-too-rare mix of authenticity and comprehensibility to everything she does. This novel, much like the Petit Journal Francophone comprehensible newspaper that she publishes, is culturally relevant and appropriate for language learners. I enjoyed this story about a teenage girl who finds out she will be moving to a city far away from her home. She grapples with what it means to leave and what she wants to do in her last few months in Marseille. I have added several copies of this book to my classroom library and I would recommend it to any French teacher of adolescents or adults.

Super engaging and interesting novel!
I'm a Spanish teacher trying to improve my French, and I read this book to help acquire new vocabulary. This book is my favorite language-learner novel I've read so far- the characters are real, you can actually feel the emotions of the characters, and Cecile weaves in cultural perspectives that I haven't seen in most other French Ci novels I have read. I loved that it was easy to read, but I learned a few new words on each page. Can't wait for more!

Excellent story, super comprehensible, free of stereotypes!
This is one of the few comprehensible French novels written for learners that is a truly great story. My students noticed immediately that their attention and interest was captured in a way that it hadn't been with many other books. They also noticed with delight that they could understand it with ease. In addition, the French feels really natural, very authentic, and Alice is a wonderful, many-layered character (and her friends are many-layered as well). No stereotypes here, and you get to explore a bit of Marseille as well. Merci, Cécile!

Really exciting story!
I loved this book. I love that every single word in the book is included in the glossary. The story incorporates the topics of friendship, (teenage) romance, immigration, and athletics. I love that the main character is a female athlete. I was disappointed when the book ended. I want to read more to find out what happens next! I definitely recommend this for beginners and up.
