Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash: Volume 7 (Light Novel)

Much better than the previous two volumes.
This volume is an actual chapter of character progression, bonding, and growth. The last two volumes focused less on the party, and more on others and Haruhiro-kun. His own party was delegated to "Where are they, ah ok, they are alive. I am weak. Ah, they are alive." Which grinded the story to a cool battle, but a halt to the driving force which is the character bonding. In this volume however it actually had some development, Haruhiro-kun actually finding out what has happened between Merry-san and Kuzaku-san. Shihoru-san actually conversing to Haruhiro-kun and him seeing what they think of him as a leader more. Ranta-san is still the same with some good growth, and Yume is shown as more dependable. The plot is good, nothing that shatters the light novel as a genre, but nobody reading this series should expect that. The change of setting helped with the direction the plot went, and it was a nice change of pace.Overall if you were going to drop this series because the last two volumes were bad, give it a read and see that this volume is great.

I love all of the chapters read so far
I love all of the chapters read so far, this one felt a little repetitive for my liking, since the party was trapped yet in another world, like in the last volume, but there is progression in the character development, there is mystery and wonder. I like how writer Ao describes Haruhiro's inner thoughts, I find the uncertainty familiar to my own thinking, and it brings me joy that other people think like that also, and that others also go through all the psychological stages like happiness, depression, anxiety, will to live, to be someone better that you are, compare oneself to others that have more skill or 'talent', sometimes I feel like Haruhiro and someone is writing a book about me ;) It takes great skill to write such an interesting piece of art and I thank the writer for this joyous time of my life, when I can read and enjoy such a masterpiece.

Addicting
Cannot put this series down. It is a fast and fun read. Slow sometimes when you are in Haru's head too much but that is the only complaint really. Still 5 stars

Another banger
I don't really even know what to say rather than I'm addicted to this beautifully crafted series. Time to read the next volume!

Poor end.
Even though the twist in the story is good and continue going forward, the characters doesn't. More than half of the book is spent narrating over and over how low the self-esteem of the main character is, and how annoying is Ranta. This is the 7th installment of the series and honestly the main character hadn't advanced or improved at all. The secondary characters in this installment were more like NPCs without will or personality. Is a shame the author hadn't delve deeper into each one of them. It looks like the author wished to leave this book with a cliffhanger, but instead the end was a mess, totally incomprehensible.

Prefectly captures the feels
I really love this series because it, in my mind, captures what it is to be the average adventurer. No glitz no glamor no glory just humans trying and struggleing and only just getting by with their lives. This volume especially got the palpable near physical feeling of hopelessness of depression and the despair that comes with it.

Different from previous volumes
This volume felt a bit different from the others. I have completely lost track of what’s the final purpose of the writer. Are they really getting better/stronger? He keeps saying it but I can’t really tell if new enemies are just that much stronger or they are just as worthless as ever.Would really love a volume were they show there progress and how strong they have become. And not just running around and being saved like always.

Dark
Definitely the darkest book of the series (pun intended) it’s interesting to see how the party’s adventure unfolds. I was really excited for this one to end to move on- not in a negative way but in a sense I have hope for something good happening in the story.

A whole new dimension
This volume was, in many ways, in a different world compared to the preceding volumes and the most enjoyable on a deep level. Stuck in a new realm, the story explores the struggles that one can face when being thrown in an alien environment. The need and instinct to adapt to different cultures, languages, customs, currencies...in order to survive and struggle another day. It was so captivating to go through this with the Team Haruhiro. When ultimately given the choice of accepting your new life or fight for your old one, it is a conundrum that was well balanced and explored. This was almost a whole story of its own and one to really remember...
