Good
Slade Attridge is the current sheriff on Rainshadow Island, Charlotte Enright the owner-proprietor of the island’s paranormal antiques boutique. An exciting past encounter means they have never forgotten each other (though they were never romantically involved), but it is events now that are bringing them together. A suspected burglary, and the sudden increase in energy from the mysterious preserve bring danger to their front doors. And when a dead body is found in Charlotte’s shop, it’s up to Slade to figure out “whodunnit”.This is the ninth book in the Harmony series, third in the cross genre/time “looking glass trilogy” (the other two are under Amanda Quick and Jayne Ann Krentz) and eleventh in the Arcane series (Amanda Quick historicals; Jayne Ann Krentz contemporaries; Jayne Castle futuristic sci-fi). It’s the first of the Rainshadow Island books set on Harmony, and begins that ongoing storyline. That being said, it can be read separately from the other books in each of the series (the exception being the rainshadow island series, as the subsequent books continue an ongoing background story- but since it is the first you don’t need to have read those yet), as it is a self contained standalone romance. It only loosely ties into the other Harmony books that have come before, and the looking glass trilogy/Arcane stories are referenced as events that occurred in the past. This particular book always amused me with its very subtle reference to CSI Miami in it. Slade is depicted as being very cool, and his mannerisms are much like those of Horatio Caine from the show. The fact that his subordinate officer, as well as one of the island kids, choose to emulate him because they admire him, is a particularly enjoyable aspect of this story.Rex the dust bunny provides us with some amusing adventures, particularly as he decides he really likes one of Charlotte’s valuable antiques. And of course, there are the adventures that our main characters have, alongside their budding romance. It all makes for a very satisfying read. The book ends on a little bit of a book-hook/cliffhanger, as the subsequent Rainshadow Island stories are interlinked and continue the background story I’ve already mentioned. All in all, an enjoyable and entertaining addition to the Harmony series.Recommended for sci-fi romance and paranormal romance fans.

Light reading for Harmony
I liked the characters in this book and the story line, though it lacks the intensity of the others in the series. I expected this big mystery but by the time the action really started it seemed the book was over. I expected the Bridewell curiosity would have made an appearance alot earlier than it did as well. I think though that this book was more about the characters than the case. It's a light read compared with the other stories from Harmony but enjoyable. Best of all, it has a dust bunny.

Canyons of Night - Review
What a great ending to the Looking Glass Trilogy and a beginning to Rainshadow Island.Charlotte I inherited her aunts antique shop on Rainshadow Island. She closed her shop on the mainland to move there. An ex-client turned stalker followed her and wound up dead in her back room.Slade is only on the island u til he can get his new business plan up and running. With the disaster from his last assignment, he needs to get things in order soon. Investigating the murder will help pass the time. And there seems to be a problem brewing in the Preserve. A privately held section of land that no one seems to know what is there.I love Rainshadow Island. It sounds like a great place to live. Well, after the issue with the preserve is taken care of, at least. I am anxious to read more about the Island and the Preserve.

Great Arcane story…
The third of this trilogy carries through the talents and legends begun in the other two. From the Victorian era England through to futuristic colony on Rain Shadow island there are paranormal devices and the characters who have the talent to operate them. Romance, suspense and mystery - what more could a reader want? Great job!

Great finale for the series...hard to put down
This book was hard to find, but well worth the search. I love this author for her humour, her insights into the "sense" of the sixth sense and paranormal happenings. I love the fact that it is set in a futuristic world which adds to the feel of a true "escape" from reality. It is easy reading and not to intellectually challenging. Good for an evening read, as long as you do not start too late. If you do, it might be a very late night. I read it in one sitting... and it was a late night.

Great Series
I love the Jayne Ann Krentz books but this one is the first I've read in her Jayne Castle series. I loved it so much I bought the rest of the series.
