Haven’t read a book this fun in 30 years
Ok here is the deal if your a classic VW fanatic (like me), or a surfer (same) or from SoCal ... or anywhere else for that matter, if your a karma type yoga girl or a born again Christian or a hispster adventurer this is the book for you! I read this book I two sittings first night I had to force myself to put it down long after midnight. The second day I carried it every where and was able to finish while shipyard Walmart and taking the wife to dinner... just find a second here or there you can do it! This story is the story of 99% of us, from the wanting to fit in part to making bad decisions to be accepted all the way to seeing ourself for who we can be they the grace of God or Buddha or whom ever you believe in, this is a great read for all! Thanks to Paul Wilson for sharing this story and thanks to the lord for making it so. This is fun for the believers and nonbelievers alike Karma is alive and well and it’s all here! Don’t dare miss this easy read with nonstop truth! Man we have all had times like this where it’s one bad decision after another each making us more and more cognizant of our own shortcomings! I can’t say enough about this book money well spent better than anything in tv! Again I can’t say enough how good and easy this book is! It’s an easy read well written without all the “ look how smart and quippy i am” that most writers put in! Just straight to the point and relatable in every way! Please don’t miss this read it’s truly fun!

I could definitely relate to the story!
When I purchased "Bad Karma", I was in the middle of another very long book. I was seriously going to read it next......then I decided to try a page or two and that was that. I was drawn into the story immediately. I'm very close to the author's age, and grew up in the San Diego area, but not of the surf culture despite growing up in sight of the beach. No matter, it was a compelling story of mistakes and redemption. I could relate, the mistakes of my early days were different, but like the author, I grew up and became a productive and responsible citizen. I was impressed at how the misdeeds were not glorified, but were stepping stones on the way to a great life.Well done, Opters!

Fun story, unbelievable story...not high prose
I enjoyed this book. It's a Mexican adventure story with a little bit of surfing and a lot of mishaps. Many of the stories are hard to believe but there is photographic evidence throughout the book. I have driven to Southern Mexico from the East Coast a handful of times and have been through many of the spots in this book. The descriptions are pretty spot on even to this day. Please understand that this book doesn't belong in the high surf cannon with Finnegan, Wisebecker, Chris Dixon, Warshaw, etc.... the writing is nothing like that. In fact, I found it lacking in many aspects. The dialogue and corny reflexive thought are not very stylistic. But not all literature has to be high brow and academic. In that regard, I find this book is similar to something like Saltwater Buddha. Fun to read but lacking flavor at some points. If you enjoy this book I highly recommend Crazy for the Storm, by Norman Ollestad. It has a lot in common with this book but I found the writing much more professional. One thing I really loved about Bad Karma is that he captures the spirit of Mexican people really well. In all my travels to the middle of nowhere Pacific Coast Mexico, the interior mountains, etc. I have received nothing but help and good vibes. Our media portrays Mex as the worst place in the world. In reality the rotten apples spoil the bunch. Please go explore this wonderful country. The people need our tourist dollars and you will not be murdered or robbed.NOTE TO AUTHOR: I think you really missed on your description of your end of the road surf spot (I won't out a surf spot on the internet.) I know you haven't been back but rest assured, there is definitely not a traffic light there. There is one small store and a few others that have a handful of goods. There is no beachfront hotel but some rustic cabins that weekenders stay at from Guad. In fact, because of the indigenous rights of the people hotels cannot be built here. And the surf is not always crowded. Weekends yes but middle of the week you can still surf alone. I just did last summer....it was pumping. Strangely enough I got chased out by a shark. And while we may pine for the days of the undeveloped secret spots, the money that travelers bring to these towns is extremely crucial to the local economy. Also, there are a so many other spots on this coastline with good waves that nobody ever surfs that you can still have that experience if you'd like. Thanks for the read really enjoyable.

AMAZING...
Okay, I bought this book for me to read and someone who is definitely a non-reader, can't tear himself away from the TV or his iPhone saw the book in my home... Boom! Picked it up and started reading it... I was shocked! Every day in the afternoon about 3 pm (quiet time, I guess!, who knew?), picked the book up and was glued... I mean 'glued' to this book... I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes! High 'adventure', totally 'relatable' to one's own experiences I am told... I guess you had to be there! Well no! In fact you didn't have to be there because you can read it and feel like you are there, right! I have to get another one so I can find out for myself, and you better too! I'll meet you there!

Great read if your into travel, adventure and surfing
What an enjoyable read, an adventure from the start. I’m pretty sure everything that could have gone wrong did, during what should have been a simple surfing trip to Mexico. It’s made me what to load up my camper and see what happens.

Not that great, sorry
Can't believe a book is written from one 5 week trip. Sheesh, in that case, I'd better get writing as I have a ton of adventures to equal this.
