Clean Green Drinks: 100+ Cleansing Recipes to Renew & Restore Your Body and Mind

Good book with some annoying issues
FYI for those considering buying: this book includes both juices and smoothies--in other words, you'll need a juicer as well as a blender if you want to try all of the recipes. One workaround if you don't have a juicer is a nut milk bag--just process the ingredients in your blender and then strain the mix through the fine mesh bag to get juice without a juicer. Also, the author is a big fan of ingredients like matcha powder, bee pollen, green superfood powder, maca, probiotics, and so on, and a lot of the recipes have these add-ins. I mention it because I know that's not always everyone's cup of tea...just know ahead of time that a good chunk of the recipes call for these kinds of ingredients.I personally love the general content of this book, and based on the title and what I know of Candice Kumai, it's exactly what I wanted and was expecting: lots of healthy and varied green drinks to add to my smoothie and juice repertoire. Awesome. The issue is that there are some irritating problems with the book that make it a lot less functional and enjoyable to use than it would have been with a few minor tweaks. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, because I do think the content itself is good and I hate to knock it for issues unrelated to the writing or the recipes themselves, but if I have to choose between 3 and 4 stars, the problems are enough of a nuisance to knock off the extra star.Awkward serving sizes: too many of the drink recipes in the book are for 3 or 4 people. It doesn't make much sense to me: are that many people regularly making the same smoothie for 3-4 people at a time? It seems like it'd make more sense to write all the recipes for two people, which makes it simple to double or halve for more or fewer people. My usual go-to source for smoothie recipes does it that way, and it's simple enough that I'd never given recipe scaling a second thought until I sat down and tried to make my weekly shopping list using this book. In the grand scheme of things, a little math isn't that difficult, but I wish the amounts for a lot of these recipes were less fiddly: who wants to start off the day trying to measure out exactly 1/6 of a pear, 2/3 of a teaspoon of nut butter and 3/8 of a cup of coconut water for something as simple as a smoothie?Missing recipes: There's a chart for a 7-day eating & exercise guide in the book, but the dinner recipes it lists are nowhere to be found (at least in the kindle version). I know this is a drinks book, but if a key part of the book recommends specific recipes, then those recipes should be included...or there should at least be an outside source mentioned where readers can go to find them.No index: Why? I don't understand why they wouldn't include an index in the back of the book so you can actually search for specific drinks by name or ingredient. The 7-day eating guide I mentioned above lists specific drinks for each day, and if there's no index I guess you're just supposed to flip around till you find them? At least on the kindle you can search the actual content of the book for key words and phrases, but still. I really don't understand why they would omit such a simple tool to make using this book so much easier and more functional. And the last issue I have isn't specific to just this book, but I find it really frustrating when books that list nutrition info and clearly have a focus on healthy living and/or weight management (I know this isn't a diet book, but I do think it's conscious of weight loss and/or maintenance based on the content) don't list recipe ingredients by weight. I know not everyone uses a food scale, and I don't think authors should completely do away with listing cups/teaspoons/etc, but I wish they'd also include grams/milligrams/ml/ounces/whatever alongside those measurements. One person's idea of half a cup of spinach might be totally different than another's (is it packed? is it chopped or are the leaves whole? etc)...for something like spinach that's not calorically dense it doesn't matter that much (other than how it might affect the taste of the finished recipe...which I guess in a recipe book IS quite important after all), but when a recipe lists "half an avocado" and then gives definitive nutrition info, I think it's misleading. It might seem like it shouldn't matter, but for people who really need to watch their intake, the extra (or missed) calories add up quickly.Overall I'm glad I purchased the book and I like a lot of the recipes, I just wish the issues above had been resolved before it was published.

Beautiful Book, Decent Recipes
I want to start off by saying that I am an avid juicing/smoothie making kind of gal. I have been juicing for nearly six years now and recently I have ventured into the world of smoothies (thanks to my Vitamix). This book is a great stepping stone for people who are looking forward to implementing juice into their lives. This is not a diet book, nor are the recipes even feasible to survive off of.I do have some issues with the content within this book, nothing too crazy, but just some issues.1. There is no glossary/index, so referencing items in the book is next to impossible (unless, of course, you write down the page number and the item-NOT good for the Kindle version).2. Some of the suggested recipes are missing from the book (possibly an issue with the Kindle version, I am unsure).3. A shopping guide, as to where to buy "bee pollen" and other items would have been nice. I know you can travel to Whole Foods and undoubtedly find such items, but maybe Candace could have suggested. *On a side note - I went to Whole Foods and they do not carry a lot of the grains/extras that she suggests.Overall, the book has amazing pictures and nice recipes, but not my favorite choice. Candace looks amazing, which can lead many people to think.... "I want to look like her. Let me juice!" The recipes are low in calories, which is a nice thing, but like I said... this book is NOT a diet book, but rather a book for you to reference when you want to make a smoothie or juice. Definitely get the REAL book and not the Kindle edition, if you plan on buying this. Candace's recipes are a bit over the top and loaded with ingredients, but if you love her from previous books, tv, etc. you will probably enjoy this book as well.

I haven't gone on a scale but I will says clothes are fitting better and this weekend friends say they can see I'm ...
I have had the nutribullet for almost a year and I goofed and did 50/50 fruits and veggies and my sugar level went up. Oooops. I purchased this book and learned soooo much! I have had this book for three weeks now and I am able to replace my breakfast and lunch with shakes. I have a lot of extra energy. I make a healthy dinner every night and I have noticed when I do eat dinner or lunch with real food instead of a green shake I can only eat half of my food. I haven't gone on a scale but I will says clothes are fitting better and this weekend friends say they can see I'm losing weight. Happy dance! Also my boyfriend never ate breakfast during the week, but now I make him a shake every morning and he is pleased with how much energy he has and how much it fills him up. I'm blending in the morning with my nutribullet and with a small blender at lunch that I keep at my desk. I have been sending the link to the book to all my friends. Also all the supplements she advises on have been wonderful and tasty. Also I was able to purchase them all on amazon. Oh another plus if you don't have a blender or juicer yet, buy this b

You won't get bored making smoothies with this book!
I absolutely LOVE this book! I did a 10 day smoothie cleanse using a different book and the ingredients repeated themselves so I was on the hunt for something else. I have a Vitamix blender and I have used several smoothie recipes from Clean Green Drinks. I like the different supplements that Candice has in her book like flaxseed, chia seed, coca powder, and spirulina to name a few. The best aspect of this book is that many of the recipes I've tried, taste great! Some of my favorites are: Green Banana Mint, Dark Chocolate Chia, and the Green Pumpkin.I did see one review about serving sizes, and I agree that the serving sizes are off. The only negative I would mention is the binding of the hardcover book is already broken and I bought this book in January 2017. I'm very careful about keeping books in good condition, so I was disappointed that I had to try to tape some of the pages together.Regardless, I always rave about Clean Green Drinks and a few people I've told have bought it and love it. You won't be disappointed!

A great book
I use this book every day - i'm a veggie hater so was a challenge to get my brain used to the idea of drinking green drinks with spinach in - but all the smoothies i've tried taste wonderful and more importantly i feel good. Easy to read, great pics Would highly recommend it

It all depends on the definition of "clean"
I was expecting clean drinks in the sense that they contain fresh fruits (and only fresh fruits). However, most o f the protein smoothies require the addition of a couple of spoons of protein powder. Many "vitamin" smoothies need spoons of spiroulina powder or green superfoot powder...Not what I was expecting.

I love Candice Kumai's cook books
I love Candice Kumai's cook books. Take the guesswork out of healthy eating without compromising taste. Also, her introductions and philosophy on sexy food is just as valuable as the recipes.
