I purchased this chainsaw and an extended reach chain saw from the same manufacturer to help with some felled trees and other yardwork. I have purchased various Sun Joe/Snow Joe products before, and have been just as happy with those as I am with the chainsaws. I want to say upfront that this chain saw DOES work with 4.0 Ah and 5.0 Ah Sun Joe batteries. I could not find that answer from other commenters and reviews, or online, before purchase. It lasts a lot longer with those batteries. I have never used a chainsaw before, so I have no point of comparison, but the electric model does as stated and it does so well. I watched a few videos on chainsaw safety and use, but the most helpful instructions came from the manual; it was very thorough and instructive for first time users, and even showed proper cutting technique in a variety of situations. It's first task was to run through two fallen trees about a foot in diameter. The chain did loosen a few times and required tensioning, but that was to be expected with it being brand new. When used as intended, this chainsaw does an excellent job of chewing through the trees. I would definitely recommend this product, especially if you have other Sun Joe/Snow Joe products and have those bigger batteries already.

This is a great saw especially for the price. I have owned several chainsaws over the years and always have issues with gassers. Prior to this I used a Ryobi 40v, good saw but the batteries are not great and super expensive. This has as much power as the ryobi and the batteries are easier to charge. Do read the manual as it has pointers like not starting and stopping the saw in rapid succession, and don't leave the batteries on the charger indefinitely. The price point was so good I bought two of these for the price of most competitors. One has been running great, the second saw was bad out of the box, batteries worked in first saw so they were fine it was just the saw wouldnt initialize (there is a led that shows you the status of the saw, it didnt light up and the trigger was dead). A five minute phone call to customer service got my saws registered for warranties and they are shipping me a replacement saw. Very good customer service. I also have a sunjoe push mower that uses same battery system and it has worked flawlessly for over a year. Batteries have all done great and survived long inactive periods. Overall very pleased, especially with the customer service which was so quick and easy (which has not been my experience with Ryobi and other bigger name tool companies).

The saw is great, but I noticed when I tried to cut anything thicker than my forearm, it would bind and not always cut. It'd eventually get through it, but it took time (which, with the batteries that come with it, is not something you have in abundance). Chain could be freshly sharpened, still no cutting. I opted to try using another chain, same specs, and it made the saw be everything I'd hoped for. Cuts like crazy (The other chain is a Workpro. A pack of two of them is $18 on Amazon. Just make sure the specs match). It's a great saw that can do everything my gas saw could, but for a fraction of the operating cost day to day. Only downside? Battery life is about 15 minutes. Doesn't give you a lot of time to get stuff done, but during those 15 minutes now that I have a better chain, it's much more capable than I expected it to be. Well worth the cost. If you order it, order the Workpro chains to go with it, and get stuff done. Love the tool-free operation, no silly wrench to keep up with. Hate the short battery life, but they recharge pretty fast.

The chainsaw come with both batteries fully charged ready to use. The directions were precise and simple to read. Immediately set up the chainsaw quickly and went out to use it on a downed tree. I've had gas chainsaws that needed mixed gas and oil and would never restart after first use. I also still have an electric chainsaw that requires a 100 ft cord which is very awkward. This chainsaw with rechargeable batteries was relatively inexpensive, lightweight and very efficient. This chainsaw and all the Sun Joe products are excellent I also have the Sun Joe pole chainsaw to reach higher limbs. I highly recommend their battery operated products especially for homeowners,I am extremely pleased and happy with the Sun Joe products I own especially the chainsaw I just received.

This little chainsaw powered through cutting down big birch trees, alder and elm we cut for firewood. It's light weight which is a big factor for me having had two back surgeries and being disabled. Uses very little chain oil, saving me more money. I didn't have any issues with kick back or a loose chain, nothing but good for an entire 5 cords of wood. Batteries still holding a charge. The only draw back to this small unit is you get 5 or 6 cuts through tree and need to recharge. But I expected that with a smaller chainsaw. So will buy a second set of batteries and I will be good to go. Highly recommend for woman, teenagers, small yard projects, or big ones if you buy extra batteries. I will also be buying a second one.

I had a tree fall in the woods in my back yard, which I probably would have just left if it didn't land on a fence. I already have an electric chainsaw, but even with a 100 foot extension cord, I wasn't even going to get half way back there. I never knew battery chainsaws were a thing and didn't know whether this would have the power to do much of anything. This turned out to work fine for the task at hand. The tree was about 12 inches thick, and this cut through it no problem. The drawback is that the batteries only last about 15 minutes, so I had to split it into a few outings so that it could recharge. This probably isn't going to work for large jobs, but it worked perfectly for what I needed it to do for just $100. I don't see why I would bother using an electric one again, and I'm glad I don't have to mess with a gas powered one.

I could not use this chainsaw for more than 5 min. Before the chain derail, and need to spend 15 min adjusting it later on. almost inusable

Used the saw for about 1/2 hour and it was falling apart.
