True Story [Blu-ray]

I love Franco and Hill in serious roles. I think they both played their respective characters well. Franco is convincing as a narcissist playing a the game of "did he or didn't he" with Hill, who's character eats it up in hopes that he will uncover the truth while also rebooting his career. There was an emotional tug-of-war between Mike's desire to believe that Chris was innocent, in that he saw some of himself in Chris, and his desire to uncover the truth. Overall, it was an interesting film and will give rise to what should be an interesting Wikipedia rabbit hole, post-film.

I don't remember ever hearing about the Christian Longo murders, so until I got to the updated onscreen info just before the credits, I didn't realize that True Story is based on a true story. Gripping and chilling, this movie drew me in and left me shaken. Excellent performances by the versatile James Franco and by Jonah Hill, playing a serious role against type. It's a murder story, a prison story and a courtroom drama, but the suspense is in what the two characters, alleged killer and damaged reporter, give to and take from each other. Heartily recommended.

What wouldn't I watch to see one of our greatest actors --James Franco-- at work! This film isn't for everyone; it's slow, thoughtful, and brilliantly follows the collision of two extraordinarily bright and deeply flawed men.I enjoyed this quiet, slow-paced frank psychological portrait of two kinds of extraordinarily flawed men, a couple of modern archetypes we've unfortunately become increasingly aware of.The first is the reporter whose heart is --or once was probably???-- in the right place, but who, as an expediency, takes a globally crucial story on post-modern slavery, and instead of 100% straight-up reporting, creates a composite character that while honestly portraying several lives, unfortunately tracks technically and professionally as a lie and screws up journalistic credibility for The New York Times.The second is the charming murderer, a too-familiar trope in American cinema. But this killer isn't slaughtering coeds or hookers; he kills closer to home. And he seems to be protecting someone. Finding out who he's really protecting is what kept me watching.

4.5 stars. I haven't seen a movie this good in a really long time, probably years. I am a long time fan of James Franco and am impressed at the superb job Jonah Hill does in this serious and dramatic role. Based on the train wreck that became the life of Michael Finkel, journalist for the New York Times. A choice made by a really normal guy, a choice that I didn't find it too hard to believe most people would make, reeks way more havic in this guys life than seems feasible or fair. A real portrait of the times we live in and the ethics of journalism that I myself had never thought about too much before this. Is that all? No, s*** gets truly crazy for this poor guy in a way that probably wouldn't be believable if it hadn't actually happened in real life to and actual peson. I found this movie truly well done. I highly reccomend it. Also, at some point google this guy, I found understanding the facts aided in my enjoyment of the movie. Definitely a movie that I will purchase as I'm already to watch it again.

I don't shy away from giving a movie 5-Stars even when it isn't Bravheart, Titanic, or my first viewing of The Sixth Sense. If a movie is 5-Star Entertaining, then so be it! However, there are some movies I give 5-Stars because they earn each star through sheer story-telling skill. This is one of those movies. I expect that is a relatively common way many of us review movies online. Often it is in the paragraphs below, or lack thereof, the ratings that reveal whether a movie is 5-Star Entertaining or has truly earned the gold. I am not going to say more than one sentence more about this movie because I believe it is one that should be studied as it is watched, in the way you study and consider the things presented to you while viewing a documentary.There is a depth to this movie that is so enveloping and encompassing that it simply is intoxicating to sink in to as you begin to consider all of the ideas presented to the view as the plot unrolls and how all of those ideas present themselves to the world as you and others see it.

This movie is for adults only! It was extremely well written, well acted. The actors did an amazing job characterizing their specific character. It was on the edge of your seat thrilling at times. I was quite fascinated with the psychology of each of the characters. If you enjoy true stories, and looking inside the psyche of narcistic murderers and how they tick you will like this. Equally, the almost creepy connection between the reporter and murderer will cause you to analyze these characters for the entire film. The question is what would you do?

I love this movie! I think the acting is great and the story is of course a true one. I understand that Michael Finkle's book is even better but, I think the movie is quite good as well. I don't think the movie brings out how cold and calculating that the narcissist sociopath killer Christian Longo really is but, it does bring out other important details. I wish this movie was available with blu ray/dvd combo since I have both blu ray and dvd players.

This movie was good, it's definitely a solid, good drama-psych thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. You really can't tell whether the accused really did it or didn't do it ...the whole movie keeps you guessing until the very last 15 minutes or so. I enjoyed it, it makes you think about the psychology of people! I would recommend it.

HMV wasn't getting this in anymore, so cheap on amazon, arrived quickly and sealed. very good film based on a true story, and Jonah hill is amazing, love his films anyway. I recommend.

I soon forgot that Tom Hardy was playing a dual role.Amazing talent well beyond expectations.Heartily recommend this wonderfully made film.

Both lead actors are excellent in their role. Jonah Hill's performance is truly great. It's the first drama role I've seen him perform and I think he is better at it than in comedy.
