Don Jon (2013)

Sadly Realistic but Great Message
As a woman who's had terrible experience with porn throughout her life, I was not excited to watch this movie because I did not think it was necessary to include the numerous and plentiful porn scenes. But I wanted to learn something so I watched anyways. After finishing, I still think the same thing. Levitt could have just had the sounds from porn in the background with him narrating and all the audience would have known exactly what was happening in the clips. That being said, I really like how it ended. After totally giving up porn, Jon was able to find that real, deep relationship he wanted, and that I'm sure most men really want. This was the main message of the movie and I know from the guys in my life doing the same, it is very true! Perhaps in future movies, they will dive more into how porn and our culture makes women into not just objects but sexual ones and how that effects how they are viewed by all the men in their lives who consume it; brothers, friends, dads, co-workers etc. Like Jon claimed in the movie, "Every guy watches porn every day." It is a rampant problem and I wish more men were strong enough and cared enough to stop watching it.

Should be required watching for all young men
This movie is 7 years old but its message is still painfully accurate. It is a smart, honest look at porn addiction in a world that is deeply hyper-sexualized. Young men in this world have a whole lot of crap to navigate, and we often do it poorly. We hurt ourselves and, unfortunately, we hurt young women too. The first thing we learn about sexuality comes from porn. Boys grow up with porn and develop their sexuality around it. It is a constant sexual companion and it has deeply distorted the way that we view and treat the women in our lives. It is an insidious problem and one that our society really doesn't recognize. The fact that this movie went so under-appreciated is a testament to that.Anyway, if you're a man in this world I think you owe it to yourself and the people in your life to watch this film, read a bit about the negatives of porn use, and analyze the role it has in your own life. You might realize you don't like everything about the way you're living.Or you might not! If that's the case then this movie has scar-jo (who is an absolute babe) and some pretty funny moments throughout. You'll like it.

Can he figure out real women instead of his fetished porn image of them?
This movie surprised me because I thought it was about one thing and then turned out to be about another. It features Joseph Gordon-Levitt who was also the director. He’s a young man who thinks he has everything but is actually still immature and has an empty life. The story is about him figuring out relationships, which is a problem because he’s obsessed with the fantasy of women he gets from porn instead of the real thing. He goes on a very interesting and unexpected trip because he meets someone and you think this will be the person that changes him but then it goes in other directions. I didn’t buy Gordon-Levitt in his role at first because they have him working out, etc. and he just does not have that look. It was also weird because his sister Brie Larson says absolutely nothing. Instead she’s always staring at her phone until the very end where she gives one of the best lines about Gordon-Levitt’s relationship. Overall thumbs up to this story.

WHAT WAS THAT? Where is the ending? Where is the story?
Um. Not sure how to rate this movie. 3 stars. ?Good acting, but, not funny, not romantic, no story and annoying characters even though the actors did well portraying them. The entire story is literally about a guy trying to stop watching porn and how he feels bad about it. Like, the entire show show is about that message. Yet, there isn't really a message. Theres no other in depth character development, nothing funny, and THEN THE KICKER IS, right when you think the show is about to start and take us into something of substance, the credits roll in. I had to take a double take to convince myself that the movie had ended. Unbelievable. It literally left you there confused, wondering if it was a joke that the show was over. No climax, just, two people were talking about something unimportant and then bam, the ending credits. If I knew that this was all this movie was going to be I wouldnt have watched it. I assumed I was about to watch a funny adult comedy about a goofy love story.Adult they got right for sure, but, nothing funny, and no love story.I really am curious to ask the director, or writer what they were thinking?I also want to give credit where it's due and say, I do however appreciate the guts it took to make a movie about this topic, we need more stories that arent afraid of the masses ridicule. So- 3 stars. Good acting, good idea for a movie, and uh ummm hmm... I cant think of anything for the 3rd star. Let's say the 3rd star just because I'm generous and I dont think it's a 2? Closer to 2.5, but, Meh we will round up.

Pure brilliance !!!!
It just goes to show you that keeping it real pays of. Great script, solid acting (although I am not a fan of Scarlet)that makes a lot of sense. Keep on making those indies Joseph. The movie really gives you something to think about. Its not for everyone, and what I mean by that is that,if you are an old guy or gal, or married, or in a "happy relationship" or with a "princess syndrome"you will find this movie boring and pointless. However, if you are still relatively "normal" young and single, this movie should speak "LOUD AND CLEAR" to you,Also, this movie can be watched on at least two different levels, at first glance one might think nothingtoo deep is happening here, yet if you watch closely or at second viewing you might catch certain things thatmake this movie great...such as unfinished dialogue, and intelligently filmed quiet scenes that speak louder then words.Be Warned!!!! This is not a romantic--comedy.For fans of 500 days of Summer (2009) or Shame (2011), I totally recommend this one.

Unterhaltsam

Also wirklich sehenswert!

Vielen Dank!
