A "Gift" Worth Sharing!
I received this book as a gift from my daughter. I found it worth sharing with a special friend with similar interests. The book that I purchased from Amazon was a gift copy for her - she has already read it six times. We both love the total concept of intertwining the history of the jewelry, the fashions/couture, prominent movements and persons of each era. I was fascinated by actually seeing what Mata Hari looked like. The photography added greatly to the impact of the subject matter which was enhanced by photographs of the clothing and hairstyles in relation to the jewelry. I found myself saying, "I had a dress like that!" and wishing that I could find a hair comb like the one on the back cover - the "Shopping & Collecting Guide" gives me resources for finding such a treasure.Because we all have personal tastes, some eras/chapters will be more appealing. The comprehensive coverage provides something for everyone who has an interest in this area. This book complements two other books that I have: "Estate Jewelry 1760 to 1960" by Diana Sanders Cinnamon and "Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry 1840 - 1950" 7th Edition in color, by C. Jeanenne Bell, G. G. Each has something to offer on this subject.

Vintage Jewelry Design
Another beautiful addition to the vintage series covering also fashion, shoes, and handbags.Like the other books the photos are spectacular and the pieces illustrated are exceptional. Most of the famous jewelry designers are profiled. Like the rest of the series the book presents the various jewels created over the past century, each decade is explained in a brief introduction to each chapter, mini-biographies of some representative designers are also included along with brief captions accompanying each photo. At the end of each chapter there is an illustrated guide summarizing the key-looks prevailing in each respective decade.Highly recommended book for all fans of fine jewelry and fashion.

if you're looking for inspiration, this is the book!
This is a well illustrated book full of inspiring designs. If you are a jewelry designer, this book will be a constant source of inspiration to stir your imaginative juices. This is not a book for costume jewelry collectors, there are plenty enough other books for that. This is one that will be a reference to further fuel your creativity. The illustrations are beautiful photographed and laid out. Each section discusses a little about their history, just enough without going into too much detail that you get bored.

reads like a textbook
This is a compilation of photos gathered from various sources. Unlike Elizabeth Taylor's book, My Love Affair with Jewelry, the photos collected here were not photographed for this specific book, so the quality varies. Each chapter then ends with a reference or review section about the type of jewels covered. Like a schoolbook. Not a beautiful book, and not a very academic work, either. Misses both marks.

Fun book, eye candy, informative.
Eye candy, excellent detail of jewelry, makes a great coffee table. It offers a good history of the items, and bits about the people who designed and made them. A fun book to peruse and learn a little something about vintage jewelry
