DonJoyDuraKold Cold Therapy Arthroscopic Knee Wrap

I had meniscus surgery and wanted an ice pack to go all the way around my leg and knee. I ordered several, including one claiming to be “XXL” that was short my 2-3”. My leg is not small but it certainly isn’t huge. It’s only about 20”. This’s is the size “large”. I wanted the XL but that was a longer wait and this one does fit ok. This ice pack fits all the way around with just a bit to spare. The straps are nice, it is comfortable. Inside feels more like pellets than anything. Doesn’t seem to be gel but it seems to work ok for a 20 minute session.

This ice wrap would have earned 5 stars in each category were it not for the fact that the most important part, the elastic straps with velcro closures are cheaply constructed. The manufacturer created the perfect ice wrap that utilizes 2"x 2" gel squares in a nylon mesh netting on the skin side with a heavy cotton fabric on the outside, but they stopped just short of perfection with the closures. I bought 1 of these after having been sent home with one following knee replacement surgery, believing it to be the bees knees. Here are my observations:PROS:* The cotton/nylon mesh materials that house a bunch of 2" x 2" gel squares side by side in vertical pockets is of high quality.* It is long enough to fit anyone.* It really controls swelling and discomfort effectively without burning the skin.* It stays cold on your knee for at least an hour, usually around 2.5 and NEVER creates or holds heat.CONS:* It will not freeze if you don't lay it in your freezer netting side out.* It is DIFFICULT TO WRAP AND FASTEN even with two people and is best done with assistance. My husband absolutely HATES it.* The 2" x 3" velcro fasteners sewn on the end of each elastic straps are cheap and ARE NOT sewn on well enough to withstand the natural tendancy to pull on them when fastening. Two on each brace have torn off their straps while attempting to fasten them and had to be re-sewn within two weeks of use.* Unlike the picture appears to imply, this brace WILL NOT remain in place while standing or walking. You CANT get it tight enough to support its own weight. This, combined with the fact that when frozen it is very rigid and does not bend with the knee make it a resting wrap only.* It's too pricey a wrap ( more expensive by far than the ActiveWraps I have purchased) to have the velcro closures on the straps literally rip off completely from the elastic because they were not made to withstand the torque necessary to fasten them securely. I hand sewed each back on and I now know to pull the elastic straps, not the closure on it's end when I am securing the wrap.* NOT being able to pull each strap from the end of the fastening velcro makes it INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to and clumsy to use.It's too bad because I like the level and length of coolness it provides.

It is easy to put on and helps with my needs after total knee replacement. I got several so one is always ready to use.

I guess it’s my fault that I assumed it was gel packs instead of ice. The ice packs when frozen are very hard and some can even have very pointed corners that are uncomfortable next to skin.I should have read product descriptions more closely. I personally don’t recommend. I will deal with it I guess. I have not tried a return yet but will follow up if I do.

I used this pack following joint replacement surgery. Worked great. Much better than the ice machine. Freezes quickly. Was ready to use again every hour.

Bought this for my knee surgery… and I was not disappointed. It stays incredibly cold for a very long time. I keep it rolled up and in the freezer to save room (as it’s rather large) and pull it out and it’s perfect. While it is on the pricier side for an ice wrap… you get what you pay for.

This ice pack is wonderful, my husband had a knee replacement and it saved him, the large is a little to small!

I bought this for my daughter when she had her first ACL tear (soccer). I remembered it from my therapy sessions a few years earlier for the same type of injury. I thought it would make her rehab process a little more comfortable. She loved it! We both used it for a few years till somehow it disappeared.... In addition to the ACL recovery it was convenient to use after runs and was sometimes even used for back pain.It is simple to use (throw it in the freezer until needed) and comfortable, if it is to cold there is enough room to wrap your leg with a towel or something, and then wrap the ice pack around your knee. This was most often how we used it.
