A great book for my collection
The recipes are so easy and down to earth. Food you will love to fix and actually eat unlike so many cookbooks out there. Gordon rocks!

Best Cookbook Ever
This cookbook is heavy and sturdy and stands up nicely on a cookbook stand. The pages are thick and feels like a high quality book. I love how Gordon describes his recipes and he also describes tips on what type of basic cookware every home chef needs. He gives great advice on kitchen essentials outside of the recipes and the book is easy to read. Buy this book.

Superior Recipes, Yet Accessible. Elevate Your Home Cooking
I own the more famous Salt Fat Acid Heat (more famous in the cookbook world, that is) and then this cookbook by Gordon Ramsay. Ramsey's book is superior, and I have worked through both books. His recipes are simple yet elegant. He elevates everyday ingredients. Please excuse any typos as this is voice to text. Gordon's recipes and techniques are accessible. The ingredients that he asks you to have in your pantry, you should already have if you are a home cook.I am of course referring to:Salt and PepperCumin,Turmeric,Garam Masala,CorianderGingerGarlicOlive OilRice VingegarBalsamic VinegarBasics like lentils, flour, olive oilThese spices are used fairly commonly now whereas perhaps in the 90's they were not. In fact, those are pretty basic spices for today's home cook. H Ramsay's recipes are simply classy. He can elevate even something as simple as green beans. And believe it or not, with this book you will actually be superior to many chefs at restaurants. Prepare to feel better about yourself, prepare to feel classy. And to save a ton of money. This book will make you feel great, but you really need to take your time with it and read the recipe slowly and read his suggestions and the introductions to the chapter slowly. I would recommend a slow work through of the book for 3 months, followed by daily reference use of the book for a year to get its full benefit.

Honest to goodness, food that WOWs!
I didn't know until after I bought this book and read other reviews that this cookbook has essentially a companion cooking tv series that aired in the UK under the same name as the UK version of this cookbook--Ultimate Cookery Course. He really breaks everything down so easy, so understandable so that you feel like I can really take on these recipes and his food and do it justice.Having been an avid GR fan for years now, and having indulged in eating at two of his restaurants, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try to challenge myself to make some of his delicious food. I am just a homecook with no prior knowledge or formal training in the kitchen. I have never worked in the food industry in any capacity unless a 1-week stint at Starbucks counts. In fact, I didn't even start cooking much of anything harder than ramen and scrambled eggs until my mid-20's (and I'm on the verge of turning 30 now). The fact that I've been able to learn so much and elevate my own abilities simply by reading and following many of the tips Gordon's included in this book and on the tv series has been kind of a gamechanger for me. I used to eat out TONS, but there's really little need to do so (except for the occasional quick bite or the indulgent dining experience) when I can simply throw something together that's super flavorful and intensely yummy just by following Gordon's instructions.I've only tried a couple of the recipes out of this book so far, and though I have to make some substitutions here and there if I can't find a certain ingredient (and I live in an area where many culturally diverse foods would be fairly easy to track down, given the nature of ultra-picky/health-conscious/foodie Californian tastes). Each recipe has been a HIT! The boyfriend has loved each recipe, and I've basically been craving more of Gordon's Chile Beef Lettuce Wraps since I've had them. I've also been itching to make variations on his souffle...The point is--even if you don't consider yourself a MasterChef, this book is easy enough to follow. There's definitely a marked Middle Eastern/Indian and Asian influence throughout the book, and a whole section on cooking with spices/chilies, but be adventurous! Try them all! I probably will.

Delicious recipes, but probably better for more experienced cooks
I ordered this for my 10-year-old son who is passionate about cooking. We found the information in introduction to be useful, especially for a budding young chef. There is a nice variety of recipes in this book and everything we have tried has been excellent. There are two main problems as far as I am concerned. First, many of these recipes use specialty ingredients that can be tough to find. When I think “home cooking” I think of classic dishes that use pretty common ingredients most well-stocked kitchens will keep on hand. For example, one recipe for steak tacos with wasabi mayo required several specialty ingredients for Asian cooking. We had to try three supermarkets before we found what we needed. Second, we have found that some of the instructions are a bit lacking in detail and/or don’t tell you the amount of a particular ingredient to use. A more experienced cook can figured things out, but a beginner would be baffled.All-in-all this is a great cookbook, but probably better for folks who have a bit of experience under their belt.
