One of the best filters I've ever had
This is a great filter if you have an aquarium without a totally enclosed hood. Practically silent and very easy to clean. I like the fact that the pump is actually in the aquarium so if the power goes off it will have no trouble restarting - you don't even have to prime it for the first use, it pumps water into the filter body filling it up until it flows back into the tank. It's also very versatile in terms of what filter media you can put in (there are no expensive cartridges to buy).

Very silent
Great filter. Very easy to service and clean. I purchased it for a 20 gallon. I haven't had any issues whatsoever and no noise compared to other people that did report that they had issues with noise. Mine is very very silent. All I can hear is some water movement when the water level is a bit lower but no rattling or anything of that sort.

Great filter for a 15 gallon tank
I used this on my 15 gallon planted aquarium and it has worked really well. My water is clear and it creates nice surface agitation. I do have to clean the filter media every few weeks but overall looks and works well. Storage capacity for media is limited but for the tank size it works. Great value for money.

Good product
Bought this to replace a similar size fluval unit which allowed most of the water to bypass the filter media. This holds more media and the tank water comes into contact with it. One disadvantage is trying to shrimp/fry proof it. Eventually used a net bag and some silicone bands to secure it. Overall very pleased.

Quality control
I ordered this because it seemed like it should be the perfect filter. Has a good set of features, good brand, and for almost twice the price of other filters I would expect quality to be a non-issue. I was wrong. When I received the filter I set it up in a large bucket to test: I was gutted to hear that it made a continuous rattling noise (like tiny gravel constantly rolling around in a plastic cup). Switched it off and took the entire thing apart trying to locate the source. After an hour I still don't know what the problem is. I suspect it has something to do with the water dynamics around the flow controller, which is a cheap-looking plastic stick that you can turn to open or close the water pushing in from the pump. The noise got much worse when the flow was fully open, but was still annoying when fully closed. I read a lot of advice on the internet about applying Vaseline, sanding down the impeller, and waiting weeks for it to "settle". Seriously? I've been fishkeeping for decades, and used many, many filters. I have never paid £45 for a filter and then just accepted that I would have to sand down the working parts myself in order to use it. Returned it to Amazon that day. I'm now using an Interpet CF2 and it is silent except for the sound of clean, filtered water flowing through my tank. Oh, and it cost almost exactly half as much as the SeaChem!

Looks good on my 45-P. (Tidal 35)
Fits a decent amount of filter media, comes with a bag of seachem matrix and a coarse sponge. Flow is good, easily adjustable. It is totally silent, and self-starts, because the motor sits in the water. Easy to get the basket out to clean the filter. Has a small footprint both inside and outside the tank, and looks minimalist and professional. The only negative is the large holes on the filter intake, which can suck up small shrimp. Either attach a coarse sponge, or superglue some fabric mesh to it. A cut to size spare filter media bag worked well for me.

A great filter but not great for shrimp...
I use this filter in a nano 25l tank, a bit large for the tank size I know but its variable flow rate means that even in a nano tank like mine there isn't too much water turbulence. It cleans the water very effectively and has been great except for one thing...In my tank I have some amano shrimp, who like alot of shrimp, like to explore even if it means leaving the aquarium. They have been in the tank for not even a week and already on 2 occasions I have woken up to one less amano shrimp in the tank. Both times they had managed to get into the filter, the first time up the waterfall and a second time into a tiny little gap in the filter to the right of the waterfall. Luckily I managed to find and save them before they died but be warned if this is happening with amano shrimp (about 4cm long) then I can imagine smaller shrimp species could get stuck even more often.
